Schedule of Events

Thank you for visiting the schedule for Earth Week 2020.  This year, we've shifted the delivery of our event schedule to a virtual format to comply with social distancing measures recommended in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Please take an opportunity to browse the scheduled events below and mark your calendar. Bike Tune-Ups and Other Tips Video Series

Monday, April 20

Check out our YouTube channel for a series of tips on basic bike safety and maintenance from our Sustainable Transportation Intern, Andrew, who also happens to be a competitive bike racer!  We will also be conducting user polls on Instagram to gather some feedback on how people use their bikes.

Join us for a virtual tour of our Campus Garden and Upham Greenhouse operations.  Cam, our Campus Garden and Upham Greenhouse Manager, has been working hard as our "essential worker" to come into the greenhouse to care for the Upham Greenhouse botanical collection and the new seedlings for the Campus Garden and our upcoming Sustainability Office Spring Plant Sale.  Join Cam and/or Wes, the Sustainability Director, for a behind the scenes look at the different plants in the greenhouse and plans for the upcoming season in6+ the Campus Garden.

Did you know Chancellor Watson of UW-Whitewater signed a commitment to take climate action?  In celebration of Earth Day, we are holding this conversation to emphasize the importance of universities, cities, and governments around to world taking action to reduce our impact on climate change.  Tune in to learn what the climate commitment means for the campus, why we're taking climate action, and how you can get involved followed by a live Q&A with our Sustainable Climate Intern, Jonathan Roberts.  
You can join the event 15 minutes prior to the start time.

Social Distancing Litter Cleanup

Spend some time outside in your neighborhoods, yards, and local communities cleaning up "together" for Earth Week! Be sure to wear gloves while cleaning up litter to just be extra careful, as well as practice appropriate social distancing. While you are out working on bettering your homes and communities, post a picture using #earthdaycleanupchallenge and #trashtagwhitewater to show your support during this time!

In this group, UW-Whitewater Sustainability Office Dining Intern will facilitate a discussion about the documentary, The Game Changers; a documentary about how eating a plant based diet can produce significant health benefits as “scientists and top athletes embark on a quest to find the optimal diet for human performance and health”. By joining the Facebook group, members can share their thoughts on the documentary and engage in discussion with other viewers.  View the trailer here.
