The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is at record enrollment again, the fourth time in five years. Preliminary numbers show 12,148 students enrolled in courses for the 2014-15 academic year, more than at any other time in the school's 146-year history.
UW-Whitewater marks its preliminary enrollment on the 10th day of the academic year. The campus's official enrollment numbers -- which will be released by UW System later this year -- are likely to be higher.
"I am pleased to see our university community continue to grow," said Chancellor Richard Telfer. "Students at UW-Whitewater are receiving an exceptional education. This is a place where students feel supported while pursuing their degrees. They also know they will be well-prepared for careers and sought-after as employees."
Over the last five years, UW-Whitewater has seen an upward trend in enrollment with 11,139 students in 2009-10, 11,557 in 2010-11, 11,643 in 2011-12, 12,031 in 2012-13 (previous record high), and 12,015 in 2013-14.
"From the arts, to the sciences, to education, there's clearly a tradition of excellence that permeates campus," Telfer said. "Our students, and faculty and staff members are regularly recognized for their achievements."
"The success of our Warhawk athletic teams, and the national attention we receive, and our academic successes certainly help us recruit students," Telfer said. "It sparks pride on campus and a sense of community that is very special."
