Warhawks open season at Perkins Stadium Sept. 7

September 03, 2013

FootballThe four-time national champion University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks open their 2013 football season on Sept. 7 with a noon kickoff against Washington University (St. Louis) at Perkins Stadium.

Fans are asked to arrive early to allow extra time for new security measures.

"If you've ever been to a major sporting event, it's exactly what you are used to seeing," said Matthew Kiederlen, UW-Whitewater police chief.

Before entering, all fans will be required to pass through a security checkpoint at the main entrance.

"Campus police and security officers will ask people to open their coats, bags, purses and blankets to check for prohibited items," Kiederlen said.

The following items will not be allowed inside the stadium: alcoholic beverages, food and beverage containers, weapons, flags, noisemakers, inflatables, lasers and umbrellas.

Items that are permitted, but may be searched or inspected, include: backpacks, purses, diaper bags, chair backs, binoculars, cameras and medical items.

Vehicles will no longer be allowed to enter through the stadium gates. Passenger shuttles will run continually from lots 24 and 11, up the hill to the bleachers and press box, and back again.

Handicap stalls will be located in lot 24 (link to map). Passenger drop-offs and pick-ups will still be allowed at the stadium entrance.

"When you're drawing the largest crowds in NCAA Division III football, it's important to have security plans in place and to be as prepared as possible," said Amy Edmonds, interim athletic director. "We appreciate everyone's cooperation as we roll out these preventive measures. Perkins Stadium is the best venue to watch Division III football, and we want it to be the safest, too."
