Winter commencement set for Dec. 13

More than 840 students will march across the stage to receive their degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 2014 winter commencement.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Kachel Fieldhouse.

MillerJames B. Miller III, who received his Bachelor of Education from UW-Whitewater in 1965, is this year's commencement speaker. A lifelong Warhawk, Miller is a retired assistant professor and chair of the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching. As head baseball coach, he compiled 416 wins -- a school record. He is a member of the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.

ZaddackThe student speaker is Samantha Zaddack, a theatre major from Shawano with 12 collegiate productions to her credit. Her resume with UW-Whitewater's Department of Theatre/ Dance includes leading and significant roles in "Dracula," "Our Town," "Clybourne Park," "Love's Labours Lost," "Nate the Dragon" and "Anything to Declare?" She will receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

The Registrar's Office lists 722 undergraduates who will receive degrees: 101 from the College of Arts and Communication, 229 from the College of Business and Economics, 170 from the College of Education and Professional Studies and 222 from the College of Letters and Sciences. The School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education will award degrees to 124 students.

The graduating class includes 20 international students, 17 military veterans and 144 nontraditional students. In addition, 48 students who used services of the Center for Students with Disabilities will receive degrees.

Commencement will be broadcast live online by UWW-TV, the university television station.
