Research and Development in Biotechnology - Online Graduate Certificate

The Research and Development in Biotechnology Graduate Certificate will provide Applied Biotechnology (MS) program degree seeking students relevant training in evaluating scientific discovery and market value, balancing business growth with innovation, and navigating patent, intellectual property, and licensing requirements. Additional focus will be placed on strategies in evaluating and implementing new products within diverse areas of biotechnology including agricultural, industrial, medical, and environmental. The curriculum consists of three, three-credit, 100% online courses as part of the Applied Biotechnology (MS) degree.
Note: This certificate is only available to students enrolled in the Applied Biotechnology (MS) degree program.

Research and Development in Biotechnology - Online Graduate Certificate

The graduate certificate in Research and Development in Biotechnology is a 9-credit program available to students enrolled in the Applied Biotechnology (MS) degree program. This program can be started in the spring, summer or fall terms, and at a pace that works best for you.
Certificate Requirements - 9 credits
- ABT 765 - Assessing Innovation in Biotechnology, 3 credits
- ABT 770 - Product Development, 3 credits
- ABT 775 - Tools for Data Analysis, 3 credits

To qualify for admission to the online certificate program, you must be enrolled in the Applied Biotechnology (MS) degree program, and meet graduate admission criteria.
Deadlines vary by term and are subject to change without notice. Accurate and up-to-date admission deadlines can be found on the graduate admission deadlines website.
Prerequisite coursework: two semesters college-level lab coursework in biology and/or chemistry. To satisfy the prerequisite you must have completed either two semesters of biology, two semesters of chemistry, or one semester each of biology and chemistry, and all coursework must have a lab component.
Additional requirements for admission to the Research and Development in Biotechnology certificate:
- Upload a personal statement (2-3 pages) describing the reason behind your decision to pursue this degree, your short and long-term career goals, and the value you believe you will add to the learning experience of your fellow students.
- Provide contact information (name, organization, position/title, relationship, telephone and email address) for two (2) individuals that are knowledgeable about your potential to do graduate work and function successfully as a counselor.

Course materials
Graduate students can purchase textbooks and other instructional materials through the University Bookstore or elsewhere online. Students should verify what materials are needed with their instructor.
Financial aid
Students completing a degree program may be eligible for financial aid in the form of grants, loans, scholarships, or employment. All of these make up a “Financial Aid Package” and may be offered singly or in various combinations. Since funds are limited, priority for aid is based on financial need and how promptly applications are filed.
