Kudos to the Human Resources Department and Stephanie Hartmann, human resource manager of benefits, FMLA and wellness, for being recognized for demonstrating excellence and innovation in employee well-being at the Well Wisconsin Awards Celebration on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Stephanie was recognized for her innovative implementation of the Healthbot Wellness Station for employees to use to track their blood pressure, weight and BMI. Stephanie also helped the university kick off the academic year with Zach Mercurio’s presentation “Creating a Culture Where Everyone Matters.” This messaging continues to be used in department training and workshops across campus and helps employees continue to feel important, valued, and that they matter.

Kudos to Kim Kostka, professor in the College of Integrated Studies, who published a chapter in the inaugural book from OLC Press "From Grassroots to the Highly-Orchestrated: Online Leaders Share Their Stories of the Evolving Online Organizational Landscape in Higher Ed." The chapter, titled "Interinstitutional Leadership for Collaborative Innovation," shares strategies learned from the creation of the UW Flexible Option, UW System's competency-based education program.

Kudos to Piper Morgan Hayes, dance lecturer, who presented her solo dance “Things Done, Things To Come, Things Left Undone” at the Breaking Ground Dance Festival in January and at the Solo/Duo Dance Festival on Feb. 10. The solo was developed inside the Kachel Center studio on UW-Whitewater’s campus in 2017 and was also presented at the American College Dance Association Festival that year.
Kudos to Lauren Smith, professor in the Adult Student Learning Department, who recently published the findings of a research study conducted with co-writer Diane Treis Rusk showing the impact of credit for prior learning by portfolio on adult learners. Not only do students who earn CPL credits persist and graduate at higher rates, they also demonstrate important critical thinking skills.

Kudos to Robin Fox, interim provost and Tim Carone, lecturer of information technology and supply chain management, who served on a panel at the Wisconsin AI Summit last week in Milwaukee. The summit brought together state, federal and military experts in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
