Welcome to the 2023-2024 academic year! Several events and workshops around campus will help everyone adjust to the new semester. Freshmen and transfer students will be participating in Warhawk Welcome, where they meet other new students, learn more about the university and become part of the Warhawk community through campus traditions.

Kudos to Dwight Watson, professor of curriculum and instruction, for co-authoring the chapter “Reflections of Black Leaders in Understanding Whiteness during a Period of Racial and Social Unrest” in the book “Breakthrough: From Pandemic Panic to Promising Practice,” edited by Shirley M. McCarther and Donna M. Davis.

Kudos to Aleah Grundahl, a senior from Sun Prairie majoring in elementary education, who will have her basketball jersey displayed in the Ring of Honor at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tennessee, in recognition of her outstanding play during the 2022-23 season. The exhibit showcases the sport's top players across the nation at every level. Read more »

Kudos to Dan Stalder, professor of psychology, whose latest articles in Psychology Today include “Semantics and Bias in Defending Florida’s Teaching Standards,” “Do White People See Their Own Race as the Most Human?” and “The Misperception of Antidepressants and Mass Shootings.” Read more »

Kudos to Alicia de Gregorio, professor of Spanish in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, who presented her paper “La muerte en La barraca de Vicente Blasco Ibáñez” (Death in the Cabin by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez) at the international conference «El concepto de la muerte en la literatura hispana», held in Valladolid, Spain, June 26-29, and hosted by the Asociación de Hispanistas del Siglo XIX.” Read more »

Kudos to Heather Niemeier, associate professor of psychology, and Rimi Zakaria, associate professor of management, for being selected to be UW-Whitewater Learning Enhancement, Assessment and Research Network (LEARN) Center Fellows for the 2023-2024 academic year. The LEARN Center was established in 1998 to assist faculty and academic teaching staff in their ongoing work to better serve our students. Fellows receive a 25% course reassignment to serve in a leadership role to help in the development and implementation of LEARN programs.

Half marathon and 5K
 
UW-Whitewater is proud to once again be a title sponsor for the Discover Whitewater Series, a half marathon and 5K run/walk held annually in Whitewater. This year’s race, to be held Sept. 17, promotes the City of Whitewater, highlights its greatest features, and encourages a healthy lifestyle for people of all ages. Through a generous donation, the DWS team is excited to announce there will be a 25% discount provided for UW-Whitewater students who participate!

Summer Concert Series
The Summer Concert Series returns to Cravath Lakefront Park on Thursdays at 7 p.m. with a full lineup of concerts through Sept. 7.
 
 
 
The Community Space
The Community Space, located at 834 E. Milwaukee Street in Whitewater, Wisconsin, provides food, clothing, furniture and more. Hours are Tuesdays, 8:30-11 a.m., Wednesdays 3:30-7 p.m. and Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to noon. All are welcome.
