Veterans Week
 
In recognition of veterans and military service members, UW-Whitewater will offer several activities Nov. 7-12, including a veteran appreciation football game, tree ribbon tying and a bowling competition. The art exhibit “Tattoos: Stories of Service” will also be on display in Roberta’s Art Gallery.

Please join us for the Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the Old Main Ballroom in the UC as we honor and show appreciation for the sacrifices made by members of all branches of the military — past and presently serving.

Campus Kudos
 
Kudos to Piper Morgan Hayes, lecturer in the Department of Theatre/Dance, who spent the summer teaching and performing all over the country. She served as summer dance faculty at UNC School of the Arts, where she taught, choreographed and set a new jazz dance work, “HumbleBee Pie: Mr. Duckworth.” She also performed with the Li Chiao-Ping Dance Company in Hawaii and San Francisco.

Kudos to UC Graphics and Marketing for winning in four categories — promotional campaign, digital campaign, social media campaign, and calendars and schedules — at the Association of College Unions International Region V Graphics Competition. Read more »

Kudos to Teri Alder, lecturer of mathematics, and Karl Brown, associate professor of history, for being nominated by our nontraditional student population for the Concern for Adults Returning to Education Award. Alder and Brown have provided extraordinary support and encouragement to returning adult students.

Alice is a New York City-based singer and songwriter with a graceful approach to introspective pop songs. She first emerged in 2011 when she began to upload covers of songs by artists ranging from Adele to Arctic Monkeys and the Civil Wars to her YouTube channel, accompanying herself on piano or guitar.

Chasing Windmills... Without the Cheese

The URock Chamber Orchestra presents "Chasing Windmills… Without the Cheese" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, in the Kirk Denmark Theater. Art education students will lead open studio art workshops for youth in the community. The workshops are open to all, but are designed with ages 11-14 in mind. They are taking place at the Community Engagement Center from 5:30-7 p.m. every Tuesday in November.

First Generation College Student Day
 
Tuesday, Nov. 8, is the national celebration for first-generation college students, hosted by First Year Experience. Students are encouraged to stop by the First Year Experience office in UC 245 to receive a free T-shirt, while supplies last, and a photo op. The office is open from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

New and updated vending machines
 

During the week of Nov. 7 all current snack vending machines on campus will be removed and replaced with new and updated machines. We hope to have a minimal disruption of service during this transition. Our new snack vending provider will be Gilly Vending. The snack vending machines will accept credit cards, cash and Purple Points. If you have questions, contact vending@uww.edu.

Free flu shots for students before holidays
 

Keep your family safe as you go home for Thanksgiving. From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, free flu shots for students will be offered in the UC — plus you get a free cold care kit with a Culver's coupon for free ice cream. Students who can't make this event can call Ambrose Health Center at 262-472-1300 to make an appointment for the flu shot.
