Student organization brings holiday cheer

UW-Whitewater's chapter of the Student National Association of Teachers of Singing is bringing holiday cheer directly to homes this year, with a free virtual caroling video. “Despite the craziness that is this semester, it warms my heart that our organization is able to share music with the community, even if it can’t be in person” says chapter president, Cassie Coenen. Short but sweet, the video includes renditions of “Deck the Halls,” “Silent Night” and “Jingle Bells.” This holiday season doesn’t have to be less joyful because gatherings are limited.

Campus Kudos
Kudos to faculty in the Department of Sociology, Criminology and Anthropology, who swept all three annual faculty awards granted by the Wisconsin Sociological Association. Michael Friedson won the William H. Sewell Outstanding Scholarship Award, Leda Nath won the George Floro Outstanding Service to the Discipline Award, and Loren Wilbers won the Hans O. Mauksch Outstanding Teacher Award. Awards were given on Friday, Nov. 13, in a virtual conference.

Kudos to Lauren Hanson, marketing major, for being awarded a $5,000 scholarship from Optimal, an education research publisher and scholarship provider.

Kudos to Tara Liegel, a senior and double major in accounting and finance, who is among six international recipients of a 2020 Zonta International Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. Founded in 1919 in New York, Zonta International is a global service organization dedicated to advancing the status of women. The Jane M. Klausman scholarship was created in 1998 for women pursuing degrees in business management. Other recipients are from Canada, Australia and Nepal, and the Wharton School of Business.
