Professor of Geology Juk Bhattacharyya wins Regent Scholar Award
 
Juk Bhattacharyya, professor of geology, has been chosen as one of three professors in the UW System to receive a 2020 Regent Scholar program grant for $50,000. Bhattacharyya helped lead a multidisciplinary team of students to develop and field-test a device to monitor landslide risk. The goal is a way to anticipate landslides — which cost billions of dollars in damages and kill millions of people around the world every year.

Sweet 16 — UW-Whitewater marketers maintain historic run at the top
 
Before the COVID-19 pandemic halted collegiate competitions across the nation, the UW-Whitewater American Marketing Association chapter retained its premier position as International Chapter of the Year at the 2020 AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans on March 12-14, 2020.

This is the 16th time that UW-Whitewater AMA has won or shared this title, and the ninth year in a row.

UW-Whitewater student awarded Goldwater Scholarship for research
 
Matthew Schulgit is among only 396 students in the United States — and eight in Wisconsin — awarded a prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship in 2020 from among 1,343 natural science, engineering and mathematics students competing for the honor.

A Brookfield native who will graduate from UW-Whitewater in May 2021 with degrees in biology and Spanish, Schulgit plans to become a family doctor and medical researcher.

Hassimi Traore, professor of chemistry, has donated a third ambulance to his native country. Six years ago, Traore fulfilled a life-long dream by purchasing an ambulance and sending it home to Burkina Faso to be the first ambulance in the country’s history.

Let your voice be heard, Warhawks! Today is Election Day for the 2020 Spring Election and Presidential Preference Primary. Those wishing to vote in person in Whitewater may do so at the Whitewater Armory located downtown at 146 W. North Street.

Though measures have been taken to reduce the risk of COVID-19 virus exposure, the threat of exposure exists and is real for all voters and poll workers participating on election day.

Important Faculty and Instructional Staff Survey
 

Beginning Tuesday, March 31, UW-Whitewater faculty and instructional staff will receive an email invitation to participate in the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE). FSSE is designed to measure instructional staff expectations for student engagement in educational practices that are empirically linked with high levels of learning and development. Results will complement those received by students on the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) survey, which is administered to undergraduate students. Please consider taking 15 minutes to complete this important survey.

The Community Space, located at 834 E. Milwaukee Street in Whitewater, Wisconsin, has a food pantry available Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30-11 a.m., Wednesday 3:30-7 p.m., and Saturday 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and a little free pantry available 24/7.
 
 
 
Free meals available in the community
Prepared individual meals are available for take-out Monday through Friday, from 5-7 p.m. Meals can be picked up at the Prairie Street entrance of First United Methodist Church at 145 S. Prairie Street, Whitewater.
