The PB Poorman Pride Center hosts events throughout the year that foster community, inspire activism, and provide education around gender, sexuality, and intersectional justice. Our annual events include National Coming Out Day, Trans Day of Resilience, and the Rainbow Celebration of Excellence. All events are free and open to the public.
The PB Poorman Pride Center and IMPACT join together annually to celebrate National Coming Out Day during LGBTQ History Month. One of the most festive LGBTQ events of the year, NCOD features an opportunity to make friends and build community while learning from some of the most exciting LGBTQ advocates in person. Past keynote speakers include Andrea Gibson, Pidgeon Pagonis, Staceyann Chin, and Jacob Tobia.
Trans Day of Resilience has transformed from a vigil, that memorializes transgender people who have lost their lives that year, to a celebration of trans resilence and gender euphoria in the face of systemic oppression. In recognition and support, the PB Poorman Pride Center hosts a “Black & Pink Card Party,” sending cute, anonymous holiday cards to LGBTQ people who are incarcerated.
This annual LGBTQ and ally awards and graduation party celebrates the accomplishments of LGBTQ students, faculty, and staff and recognizes graduating students with a rainbow cord ceremony.
