When it comes to educating future teachers UW-Whitewater leads the way! UW-Whitewater’s College of Education and Professional Studies prepares the most (and the best!) initially licensed teachers in Wisconsin! And an important part of that success is our Future Teacher Program.

The goal of the Future Teacher Program (FTP) is to build a bridge from the dream of teaching to the reality of being equipped to teach. We want to increase the number of:

1. Minority graduates who are licensed to teach
2. Graduates licensed to teach in STEM disciplines
3. Graduates licensed in subjects with teacher shortages

To help do this, the FTP team recruits and retains students from underrepresented groups, as well as students interested in teaching high-demand subject areas, into the teaching profession. Now in its 12th year, FTP boasts retention and placement rates of more than 80%.
