Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects (IRB)

Function

The IRB will review all research involving human subjects on campus, including extramurally funded research, intramurally funded research, and unfunded research. This includes research by faculty, academic staff, and students. The purpose of the review is to insure conformity with federal regulations, state statutes, and generally accepted ethical guidelines involving the use of human subjects in research.

Membership

Following Federal Guidelines on Membership

  • At least five faculty or academic staff, one of which is chair
    • At least one member who is primarily in a scientific area
    • At least one member who is primarily in a non-scientific area
  • Research Compliance Officer
  • A non-University of Wisconsin-Whitewater member
