We are extremely pleased to announce that our curriculum has been approved by the UWW Curriculum Committee. The Media Arts and Game Development Major launches in fall 2010. See the class structure here. We are one of the very few undergrad game/interactive media development majors in the country. Ours is unusual for its cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional focus. It allows content providers, interaction designers, usability testers and programmers to come together to create compelling interactive media. Despite this economy, there is a demonstrated need for graduates with these skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enroll?

The program has passed the UWW curriculum committee and the Faculty Senate. Students will be able to declare the major in June, 2010.

Where do I sign up?

There are three emphases in the major: Visual Imaging (Art), Technology (Computer Science), and Game/Interface (Communication). You decide which one you want and go to the appropriate department to declare the major and get the paperwork.

What kinds of jobs will this prepare me for?

The game industry is now larger than the film and television industries combined. There are many jobs in these companies. The MAGD major also produces grads equipped to go into other fields such as: web-delivered journalism, interactive advertising and public relations, educational/serious games, social media marketing, and online education.

Is it hard?

Yes! This is a fascinating field, but it is complicated. Come and join us if you are willing to work hard and develop a solid skill set in an extremely technologically complex world. This is a major for people who want to build our technologically mediated future. It isn't a job for lightweights.
