Recognize Respond Refer
Suicide Prevention Training for a Safer, More Supportive Campus
What is RRR?
Recognize, Respond, Refer (RRR) is a framework designed to strengthen our campus community’s ability to support mental health and prevent suicide.
Through training, education, and resources, it equips students, faculty, and staff with the skills to recognize when someone may be struggling, respond with compassion, and connect them to appropriate support services.
- Suicide is a leading cause of death among college students.
- Most students who are struggling don’t reach out directly to mental health professionals.
- Faculty, staff, and peers often notice the first signs—RRR helps them act confidently and compassionately.
Recognize signs of emotional distress or suicide risk (e.g., behavioral changes, withdrawal, academic struggles).
Respond with empathy, nonjudgmental listening, and concern.
