How to apply to UW-Whitewater

As you begin the application process, your dedicated admissions counselor is here to help you with any questions along the way.

Direct Admit Wisconsin

UW-Whitewater participates in Direct Admit Wisconsin, offering early admission to high school juniors at participating Wisconsin high schools. Through this initiative, you can gain admission to the Warhawk family with no need for a traditional application. We collaborate with your high school to review your academic records (high school courses and GPA) at the end of your junior year and make offers of admission to students who qualify.

All students qualifying for admission to UW-Whitewater will be asked to complete the Direct Admit Wisconsin form. Direct admit offers expire May 1, 2026.  Submitting the form connects you to UW-Whitewater resources, important updates, and your personalized Next Steps so you can prepare for life as a Warhawk. If the form is not submitted by this date, students can still submit a traditional application. 

Applying for admission

UW-Whitewater offers two free applications at no cost.

  1. Complete the Universities of Wisconsin Application. (This application is recommended for those that are intending to apply to more than one Universities of Wisconsin school.) OR
  2. Complete an application on Common App. (This application is intended for those intending to apply to more than one school available on through Common App.)

You will also need to submit:

  • A copy of your high school transcript
  • Your ACT/SAT scores (optional)
    • ACT Code: 4684
    • SAT Code: 1921

What to expect next

After you submit your application, you’ll receive an email with information about setting up an account for our student information system, WINS. You can track your college application progress, such as what documents still might be needed.

What we’re looking for in a Warhawk

At UW-Whitewater, you’re more than a test score and GPA; we review freshman applications from many angles, including personal characteristics that would contribute to the strengths and diversity of our campus community.

Non-academic factors we consider might include:

  • Leadership experience
  • Community service
  • Creativity and innovation
  • Special talents

The most competitive freshman applications typically include positive factors that are both academic and non-academic in nature.

Academic preparation is an important part of an admission decision.

The following list identifies the minimum course requirements necessary for admission consideration. The most competitive candidates for admission to UW-Whitewater typically surpass these unit requirement totals.

  • English: 4 units
  • Math: 3 units
  • Algebra, Geometry, and other mathematics courses with Algebra and Geometry prerequisites (preferably fitting the college preparatory math sequence of Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II)
  • Natural Science: 3 units
  • Social Science: 3 units
  • Academic Electives: 4 units
    • Typical electives include a combination of extra courses in the above subjects, arts, music, computer science, foreign language or business

We encourage you to apply to UW-Whitewater as early as possible. Although we accept students on a rolling basis, it’s possible we’ll close applications once we’ve reached our capacity for admitted freshmen.

Application deadlines:

  • Fall 2027 Semester: Applications for the Fall 2027 semester open Aug. 1, 2026.
    • New freshmen who have been admitted to UW-Whitewater by Jan. 1 of their senior year for the upcoming fall term are automatically considered for academic scholarships.
    • Application submission is recommended prior to May 1, 2027 to best prepare students for orientation dates beginning in June.
    • Applications received after May 1, 2027 will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
