College of Education and Professional Studies
The College of Education and Professional Studies prepares students for careers in a wide variety of areas including: counseling, teaching, health and fitness, physical education and coaching, speech and language, recreation, and military science and leadership. We offer programs at the undergraduate and graduate level and are committed to providing our graduates with the skills needed to succeed in today's fast-changing and global society. All of our programs have proven themselves through rigorous state and national accreditation in a variety of areas. Our faculty and staff are committed to using the most current teaching methods and technology in their instruction. AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
Outstanding Student Support Award
This new college level award was created in 2019 to recognize individuals who go above and beyond in supporting students. During the inaugural year of this award, three individuals earned the award through peer nomination: Kelli Danielski (Advising Center Coordinator), Courtney Luedke (Assistant Professor, Curriculum and Instruction), and Carmen Rivers (instructional staff, Curriculum and Instruction).
Teacher of Distinction Award
Carrie Merino (Ph.D. 2016, Regent University, Virginia Beach, Virginia), Assistant Professor in Counselor Education, holds a Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard’s BOK Institute. Courses she instructs include Crisis Intervention and Trauma Counseling, Principles of Counseling and Counseling Ethics, among others. Dr. Merino’s students describe her as a driven educator with a desire to see her students succeed.
Graduate School Teaching Award
Cody Busch, Clinic Director and Instructor for Communication Sciences and Disorders, was selected for her extensive teaching at the graduate level, use of innovative teaching practices, and demonstrated commitment to student learning, as well as how quickly and effectively she adapted her courses and instruction to remote teaching and learning during the pandemic.
Faculty Service Award
Amy Stevens is a professor in the Department of Special Education. She coordinates the Jamaica Student Teaching Program, and in partnership with Church Teacher’s College, initiated the Special Education Conference and Workshops, a professional development opportunity for Jamaican teachers that has been running for over seven years. Nationally, Stevens has more than a decade of leadership in the Teacher Education Division of the Council for Exceptional Children.

The Dean's Advisory Council serves as a liaison between the student body and the College of Education and Professional Studies. It acts in an advisory capacity to the dean by making recommendations about college needs and services, programs and general operations. It is also intended to connect students with available resources, and to bridge communication between students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Members serve one-year terms and include balanced representation between majors and degree level (undergraduate/graduate). Students are invited to serve by their major department and/or by representing an associated student organization such as:

- Chi Sigma Iota – International Honor Society for Professional Counselors
- CHARPE – Coaching, Health, Athletics, Recreation and Physical Education
- NSSLHA – National Student Speech Language Hearing Association
- ROTC – Army
- SCEC – Student Council for Exceptional Children
- SSO – Student Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers
- SWEA – Student Wisconsin Education Association
The council meets monthly during the academic year. A convener and associate convener is chosen from among the members to run the meeting, set the agenda and work with the dean on the various obligations of the council.
Dean's Advisory Board members include both alumni and friends of the university. They are civic leaders, individuals with knowledge and expertise that can be highly beneficial to both the students and faculty within the College of Education and Professional Studies.
Board members represent a range of careers, backgrounds and expertise. A strong effort will be made to include diversity with the membership itself, male-female balance, and desirable ratio of local to non-local members.
