APPLY TO THE LIFE PROGRAM

Applying to the UW-Whitewater LIFE Program is the first step toward an inclusive college experience focused on independence, career development, and community engagement.

Prospective students – with support from a parent or guardian as needed – must submit a completed application packet for consideration. It is a competitive program with limited space, and applications are reviewed carefully to ensure the program is a strong fit for each student.

Application deadline:
Completed applications must be submitted by December 31, 2026, for consideration for the 2027-2028 academic year.

Completed application materials should be emailed to lifeprogram@uww.edu.

All completed applications are reviewed by LIFE Program staff. Initial screening is based on the information and documentation provided.

After review, applicants will be contacted with (a) an invitation to participate in an interview or (b) notification that the student is not being considered for admission.

Because each application is reviewed thoughtfully and thoroughly, families are asked to be patient during this process. Only complete application packets will be considered.

The LIFE Program admits students who are likely to benefit from the academic, residential, and vocational supports provided. Prospective students should meet the following qualifications:

  • Ages 18-25 at the time of acceptance
  • Documentation of an intellectual disability
  • Ability to function independently for at least a few hours at a time
  • No significant challenging behaviors that would interfere with participation
  • Ability to take medication independently or with technology-based reminders
  • Ability to manage daily needs, such as following a specialized diet
  • Ability to complete basic hygiene routines independently or with minimal support
