Yes, someone can both officiate and keep scores of Intramural contests, however they would not be scheduled to do both jobs in a night. It is rare, however, that someone is appointed to both positions given how much interest these positions typically receive. Our program wants to hire as many people and provide as many opportunities as possible.

Yes, however working multiple seasons at once can be quite challenging. Like the response to the previous question, this is also rare because of the experiences and opportunities the program would like to provide for as many people as possible. Keeping staff assigned to one activity at a time is also preferred to manage and meet participant expectations as best as possible while ensuring our staff as the necessary time to take care of their academic, personal and other obligations.

There is no formal "application" process. The best way to "apply" is to express interest or attend meetings. There is no formal interview, either. The "interview" consists of attending training clinics and working pre-season
scrimmages so we can assess what you've learned and how you'd do in regular season settings.

Trainings consist of rules education, learning signals & mechanics, reviewing positioning concepts, communication, simulations of on-court/field experiences, covering officiating basics, working scrimmages, etc. Training agendas are specific to each activity.

Student staff are paid bi-weekly. Paychecks are delivered via direct deposit only.

Intramural Sports provides a uniform top/jersey and whistle/other on- field/court accessories. Scorekeepers should dress in business-casual attire.

Things happen. If you cannot work a shift, we ask you post to the Humanity tradeboard and attempt to find a sub yourself. Because staff have the chance to submit their personal availability each week, admin staff will not assist with finding subs unless in case of an emergency.

Work Study is a form of financial aid provided to UW-Whitewater via government services. Scorekeepers must have Work Study, although Officials can be classified as Work Study or Regular Pay employees.

As long as returning staff have been employed with Intramural Sports and last worked within a 12-month period, paperwork and new officials meeting attendance is not necessary. Attending other training clinics is an requirement, however, as materials build from training-to-training.
