Annual Commuter and Staff parking permit sales usually begin in early August, with an email announcing the official sale dates typically going out in July.   Commuter and Staff permits are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis.   

Students who will be living on campus please refer to student parking page for details on the new process that we will be implementing this year. 

Parking permits are now digital and enforced via License Plate Recognition (LPR). This means you will not receive a physical permit because your license plate is your permit.  Therefore, it is the permit holder's responsibility to maintain an accurate vehicle record. If there is any need to change vehicle(s) associated with a permit, please log into the Parking Portal and make the necessary changes directly under your active permit.

Parking rates are determined by evaluating the cost of current and future facility needs, maintenance requirements, administration services, safety, and enforcement.  These costs are passed on as user fees to those who use the parking facilities.

All revenues collected through permit sales, daily permits, and parking citations are directly used to fund necessary maintenance projects, preparation of new parking facilities, salaries of staff, and to make payments on the debt service from previous parking projects. In accordance with Wisconsin statutes, parking utilities on University of Wisconsin campuses are considered auxiliary enterprises, which means Parking Services must be a self-supporting enterprise. The parking program is prohibited from using tuition or tax generated revenue. By law, parking funds can only be utilized for costs associated with parking, transportation, and security.

There are less than 5,000 parking spaces on campus. With over 12,000 students and 1,200 faculty and staff, a system of allocating the available parking spaces is needed.  

Students living on campus generally require a parking space 24 hours a day. On campus students are assigned to a parking lot near the residence halls, and are expected to walk to classes and other campus destinations.

Commuting students use parking lots near the academic buildings, and generally they are on campus for shorter periods of time. Because of this turnover, a parking space in a commuter lot generates approximately the same amount of revenue as a parking space in a resident lot.

Employees are eligible for a Faculty/Staff or North Commuter permit. Students who are not living on campus are eligible for either the North or South Commuter permit. If permits sell out, you have the ability to add yourself to the waitlist through the Parking Portal. If a permit becomes available later in the year, those on the waitlist will be notified of the availability by email.

Until you receive an email notification and purchase a permit, there will be no parking available for your vehicle on campus. You will need to leave your vehicle at home or make off-campus parking arrangements.

Permits are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once permits sell out, we will not be able to accommodate additional vehicles.

No. Due to the demand for parking permits, it is the best and fairest policy for our office to offer that permit to an individual on the established waiting lists.   It is illegal to resell or offer for resale, at any price, UW-Whitewater parking permits. Registering a vehicle owned by someone else to your permit may result in the vehicle being ticketed, booted, or towed at the owner’s expense.

Students purchasing a permit will have the option to pay with a credit card or have the amount transferred to their student bill.   If the payment is added to your student bill, payments will then need to be paid through the Cashier’s office located in Hyer Hall or online through WINS.

You may be eligible to receive a prorated refund if you fill out the Request for Refund form.   Parking Services will then deactivate your permit and process that prorated refund based on the date the form is submitted.

 Tickets are issued to enforce the parking regulations policies and procedures. These rules ensure maximum parking is available to our campus community and to help maintain safety. The fine amounts are based on how severely an infraction may inconvenience other motorists. 

Unpaid tickets with Wisconsin plates are subject to late fees and after 78 days an additional fee of $10 is added and the license plate is referred to the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles. The DMV suspends the registration for the vehicle with that license plate, and will refuse to renew registrations for vehicles with the same owner.

Unpaid tickets with out-of-state plates are subject to late fees and after 78 days an additional fee of $15 is added and an invoice is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle. Any invoice not paid over 90 days will be sent to collections.

No. Tickets cannot be transferred to your student bill. They must be paid to avoid any late fees, possible license plate and vehicle registration suspension, or collection process. The Parking Services Office accepts cash, checks, and credit cards (MasterCard, VISA, or Discover).    We do not accept bills larger than $50 or coin payments over $2.00.   

Starting at 5PM on Fridays and extending through 11PM on Sundays, parking is free for the weekend. Additionally, Lot 12 is free from 7PM until 2AM to improve access to the Andersen Library. There are also nine (9) University-recognized holidays that allow free parking on campus.

Free parking may be overridden by events such as football games or large conferences. Some regulations such as those relating to overnight street parking and restricted stalls labeled with signage are still enforced during free parking periods. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the general parking regulations.

Yes. Parking Services enforces all parking rules and regulations year-round, even when classes are not in session.

Signs will be posted at the entrance of the lots that will be closed, an announcement email will be sent to all staff and students, and the parking website will have information posted. It is the employee's or student's responsibility to let their guests know of any closed parking lots to avoid unwanted tickets.

Parking in Lot 12 from 7PM-2AM does not require a parking permit to allow for students and patrons to access the library. However, parking in stalls with any type of sign is still not allowed.

Yes. A valid/current UW-Whitewater parking permit is required to park in any accessible parking stall on campus along with the handicap placard or disabled license plate. This is required for students, staff, and visitors. Learn more about accessible parking.

Yes. Lots 11 and 24 abide by the same regulations as the rest of campus, meaning a permit is required at all times during the week. Lot 11 has been newly converted to an “any permit” lot, meaning you may park there with any type of active permit instead of being limited to Faculty/Staff and North Commuters.

Lot 24 still requires either a Faculty/Staff or North Commuter permit before 5PM, with South Commuter permit holders being able to access the area from 5PM-2AM. If you do not own one of these permits and want to park in Lot 24, you’ll need to purchase a visitor permit from the Parking Portal, or pay for a metered stall through the AMP Parking app.

The Parking Services office accepts cash, checks, and credit/debit cards (MasterCard, VISA, or Discover).    We do not accept bills larger than $50 or coin payments over $2.00.  

If you are a student, payment for parking permits can be billed to your student account or paid with a credit/debit card.   Employees of the University (not students) may have the cost of an annual parking permit deducted from their payroll checks if purchased early enough in the academic year. Tickets cannot be charged to a student bill or be payroll deducted.

Visitors should purchase a daily permit from the Parking Services office during business hours or after hours from the permit kiosk (located in the service drive behind the Visitor Center). Hourly (max of 4 hours) and overnight permits can also be purchased from the kiosk. Students may purchase a permit on behalf of their guests as long as the license plate information is entered correctly. Get information about visitor parking.

In accordance with Residence Life policy a visitor staying as a guest in a resident hall may purchase parking for up to two consecutive nights. The overnight visitor permit will only be valid to park in Lot 19.

You can call the Parking office during business hours, or the UW-W Police non-emergency number at 262-472-4660 after hours. You will be instructed where to park for a limited time while enforcement goes through your lot to ticket violators and tow if necessary.

We have two stalls in Lot 14 and one in Lot 21 (see parking map). These stalls require you to have a valid permit, whether it be a day pass or an annual permit. You can park in these for a maximum of four hours, and will need to move your vehicle after this cap is reached. 

We have two electric vehicle Level 2 charging locations on campus that are connected to the ChargePoint network. One is a single-post charger located at the General Services building and is designed to serve an electric vehicle in the service or rental vehicle fleet and is not available for public use.

Coin-operated meters have been removed from UW-Whitewater campus due to the cost of maintaining, the inefficiency of outdated equipment, and to make it more convenient for the patrons who visit the campus. The coin-operated metered stalls have been replaced with the AMP Parking app that you can download to your smartphone and pay for short-term parking.

The current rate is $0.35/15 minutes up to a 2 hour max time limit. There is a $0.25 convenience fee that is added to your session. If you need to extend your session, you will not be charged an additional convenience fee; it is a one-time fee for each new session.  

NOTE:  You will not be able to extend any session once you have reached the maximum time limit. The maximum time limit is 2 hours except for lot 11 which is 4 hour maximum time limit. Once a session has expired even if you didn't pay for the entire time allowed in that space, you will be locked out of that space for 24 hours.  In these circumstances, you will need to move your vehicle to another zone and pay the fee.

If you do not have a smart phone to download the AMP Parking App, you can visit the Parking Services office to purchase a daily permit, or stop at our parking permit kiosk (located in the service drive behind the Visitor Center) where you are able to purchase hourly parking permits up to 4 hours using a credit or debit card.

If you do not have a credit card, you will need to stop at the Parking Services office to purchase a $5 daily permit. We accept cash or checks.

If your vehicle becomes stalled, stuck, or disabled on University property, contact the University Parking Services and University Police Department immediately with the license plate number, vehicle information, and location of the vehicle.   If the vehicle is not obstructing traffic or is not creating a hazard in any way, you will be given three (3) hours to move the vehicle before it is subject to a ticket or tow.   If the vehicle is parked at a pay-by-space metered stall, the fee must be paid until the vehicle is moved.
