Please allow me to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born into a humble family of eight; I am the third of six children. My father had a sixth grade education and my mother was slightly more fortunate, having completed the eighth grade. My first experience with post-secondary education began in 1987 at the age of 13, when I attended a residential computer camp sponsored by University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Office of PreCollege Programs. This was a defining experience in my life that instilled in me the desire to eventually go on to college. Five years later I was on the UW-Whitewater campus as a college freshman.

I eventually graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Economics, worked in the private sector, and later returned and completed an M.B.A. in Finance. Since my return to the University, I have had the privilege of working with students like myself: students who may not have come from the most affluent background but have a wealth of ambition and desire to succeed. I encourage all students to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities offered at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and develop to their fullest potential. But most importantly "always remember that your life is yours to mold as you choose" and the staff here at PreCollege is dedicated to assisting you on your journey...

I'm Mike Wessely, and I'm excited to be in PreCollege Programs! My experience with UW-Whitewater began as a first generation undergraduate student. The college experience was a new one for my family, but they encouraged my educational goals. As a student, I worked at the University Library and found that I enjoyed the campus atmosphere and getting to meet so many people. I participated in several student organizations here, including the Forensics Team, Student WEA, Muse Magazine, and the English club. I completed my BSE in English Education with a minor in History Education, and was hired in Human Resources and Diversity shortly thereafter. I recently completed my Master of Science in Communication from UW-Whitewater. I'm happy to help you have an enriching and rewarding experience in your educational pursuits.

Welcome to PreCollege Programs at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater!

I started at UW-Whitewater as a student majoring in psychology where I had countless rewarding educational and leadership experiences. Shortly after graduation I began working on campus full time with various offices including: Latino Student Programs, College of Business & Economics, Student Support Services, Academic Standards, Residence Life, and now, PreCollege Programs. During this time I also received my Master of Science degree in Curriculum & Instruction - Higher Education. While growing up, I was very lucky to have parents supportive of my education, but as a first generation student, I couldn't always turn to them for the help I needed navigating through college. There were many staff members at UW-Whitewater that showed me the ropes and assisted me in the rough patches. I still turn to these staff members for professional guidance and appreciate the generosity of their time and caring. I sincerely hope we can be that support system for you as you explore the world that opens up through education.

Welcome to the Office of PreCollege Programs Website. My name is Tiffany Adkins. I've had the privilege to do my undergrad here at UW-Whitewater and pursue my Master's in Educational policy and Analysis here as well. During my undergrad I participated in several student organizations on campus. I was on the Executive Board for the Black Student Union for several years in different capacities. I was the creative coordinator for T.i.F.U Cultural Ensemble, in which I was the first to serve in that position. Also I served as Vice President and Treasurer for my sorority Delta Sigma Theta. Through each of those organizations a great deal of networking came along, which ultimately lead me to PreCollege Programs. I have been working for PreCollege since 2006, as a Tutor counselor, office assistant, and Lead coordinator/ program coordinator. There is not a greater honor than it is to work with students. I look forward to assisting and working with them every year. As a first generation college student, my goal is to make sure that I am not the last college graduate and to ensure each student I come across through PreCollege takes advantage of the opportunity and transform into a successful college graduate in the years to come.

Thank you for taking the time to visit the UW-Whitewater PreCollege programs website! It brings me great pleasure to introduce myself to you. My name is Debbi Perlita Pacheco. I graduated with a double major in Anthropology and Chicano Latino studies from California State University of Long Beach. I am proud to say that I am the youngest of six, and daughter of two hard working Mexican immigrant parents. As a first generation migrant student, I was fortunate to participate in PreCollege programs from all different angles, such as the Academy of Healing Arts, Migrant Student Leadership Institute, Migrant Mariachi Program, College Assistant Migrant Program, and Summer Bridge, to assist, motivate, and aid me in my educational pathway to success. I am truly grateful to have had access to these programs and to know that funding and preparation for college was not all dependent on my parents. Because of programs like these, all of my brothers and sisters were able to attend universities, and get the education we deserve. I am here to provide the same opportunities for students as a Graduate Coordinator and will do my best to motivate, listen, and guide students through their college endeavors. Together we can achieve our highest potential. Si se puede! Yes you can!

My name is Arie Montgomery. I received my Bachelor's degree here at The University of Wisconsin Whitewater in Studio Arts and Women's Studies. I am currently a graduate student pursuing my Master's in Special Education with a focus on learning disabilities. Here at the University, I have been heavily involved in the Black Student Union, TIFU Cultural Ensemble, Sister to Sister, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. I also participated on the Women's Basketball and Track team before suffering from a major knee injury. I take pride in my work as a volunteer as a coordinator at a small community center in Racine, WI. There I work with young girls from the ages 7-15, and it has truly been a life changing experience. I feel with guidance, support and encouragement we can educate the youth, and I will continue to work to the best of my abilities to assist them. I am pleased to be working with the PreCollege program because we prepare minority students for higher education. My goal is to serve as a role model and recruit more students so they can take advantage of this program.

My name is Jeremall Parker and I'm proud to say that I'm a part of the Office of PreCollege Programs. I have been working with the program a little over 3 years now, and it has continued to be a great journey to be a part of. I have seen so many students from this program change year after year for the better. Being a Tutor Counselor/ Team Lead Coordinator- this program has helped me mature and grow over the years, but not only has the program helped me, the students have as well. They have helped me imagine, believe, and achieve goals that I didn't know I could reach myself, so by them helping me reach goals in my life, I want to give back and help them reach their fullest potential. See you guys around!
