Beyond the Ballot: Making Sense of the 2026 Midterm Elections

October 19, 2026

Eric Loepp, Associate Professor, Politics, Government, and Law

The 2026 midterm elections will play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of American politics during the second half of President Trump’s second term. Control of Congress – and everything that goes with it, from who get appointed to federal courts to what new laws are drafted – is on the line. Join us for a non-partisan, interactive session that will help voters navigate the noise and focus on what really matters this November. We will break down the key battleground contests, explore the strategies shaping campaigns across the country, and discuss how historical patterns and current conditions may influence the results. We’ll also examine what the outcomes could mean for governance, policymaking, and the political landscape heading into 2027 and beyond. Whether you’re a political enthusiast or simply looking to make sense of a consequential election cycle, this session will provide clear insights and practical takeaways without the polarization.

Lectures will be held on Mondays at 3 p.m. in the Olm Fellowship Hall of Fairhaven Senior Services, 435 West Starin Road, Whitewater. They are open to the public and registration is not required. Lectures may be recorded and posted to our Fairhaven Lecture website and YouTube channel. Videos of lectures in this series and in past series can be accessed for free any time after they are posted online.
