Dr. Leah Shepard-Carey

Leah Shepard-Carey (she/her), Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Graduate Studies in Teaching and Learning in the School of Education at Drake University (Des Moines, IA). She teaches practicing teachers and graduate students across Teaching English as a Second Language and World Language licensure programs, as well as the Culturally-Responsive Leadership Master's program. As a former elementary language educator, her research focuses on collaborating with practicing teachers to incorporate culturally-responsive approaches in language education. has several publications in journals such as TESOL Quarterly, Classroom Discourse, and Language Awareness. She also has an edited volume entitled, (Re)imagining Translanguaging Pedagogies Through Teacher-Researcher Collaboration by Multilingual Matters.
