FUTURE TEACHER PROGRAM

Our mission

To increase the retention and graduation of students in the teaching profession and of students seeking licensure in high-demand teaching areas such as: Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Business Education, Mathematics Education, English as a Second Language, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Library Media K-12, and Spanish Education.

Our goal

To build a bridge from the dream of teaching to the reality of being equipped to teach. The program’s goal is to increase the numbers of graduates licensed to teach in Wisconsin, with a focus on areas identified as shortage areas in the state.

Eligibility

Who is eligible?

You are eligible for the program if you are a declared first-year teacher education major interested in any teacher licensure program, especially the following high demand areas:

Business education
Early childhood education
Elementary-middle education
English as a second language/Bilingual Language education
Library media K-12
Math education
Secondary Science education
Spanish education
Special education

Support

How we support students

You will participate in high-impact academic programming and transformational learning experiences aimed at promoting student success, such as:

Live and Learn community: Move-in early and live in the same residence hall as peers in Future Teacher Program & take 2 classes (New Student seminar, and a required course for all education majors) together during the fall semester
The Future Teachers Summer Institute: Mentoring and involvement in important workshops a week prior to the start of classes
Undergraduate research: Undergraduate research is an inquiry or investigation conducted by an undergraduate that makes an original intellectual or creative contribution to the discipline
Early experiences in schools: Hands-on experience in the classroom
Service learning projects: Get involved and gain professional experience while completing a volunteer project
Study abroad programs: Unique opportunity to travel internationally while actively learning

Please fill out this quick survey to be considered for application. There are two questions that require you to write a few sentences (you do not need to write a full essay). Review of applications begins in March.

Summer 2025 dates are August 24^th - August 29^th. In order to participate in FTP, you must be able to move-in by/on August 24 ^th and be able to participate in all programming during the week of the 24 ^th to the 29^th.
