The Department of University Health and Counseling Services at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Counseling Services Director (HS056).

JOB DETAILS:
The Director of Counseling Services, alongside the Director of Health Services, provides vision and strategy for University Health and Counseling Department (UHCS), provides content expertise to the division and institution keeping student need and institutional mission at the forefront, coordinates administrative functions such as personnel and program management, develops departmental goals/objectives and budget.
The UHCS philosophy focuses on both prevention and intervention, and as a result, offers a wide array of direct care, educational outreach, wellness and holistic programs and services. Outreach and services are enhanced through participation in a nationally APA accredited doctoral internship, predoctoral practicum placements and master's internships. All services and programs are in accordance with AAAHC standards. The Director of Counseling Services provides leadership and supervision for a team of clinical providers and support staff; serves on campus committees; participates with Division of Student Affairs Leadership Team, member of the Wellbeing unit; and promotes student success through delivery and promotion of quality healthcare, counseling and education.
This is a full-time, annual appointment; the Director of Counseling Services reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students working closely with the Director of Health Services and the wellbeing unit. The Counseling and Health directors provide mutual backup, ensuring continuous leadership and operational support for the department in each other's absence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- A doctoral-level clinician with at least three years of experience.
- A current license as a psychologist is required. Wisconsin licensure as an independent practitioner is required within 6 months of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to meet the supervision needs of multidisciplinary counseling center.
- Leadership and supervisor responsibility.
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to provide supervision for doctoral interns in the APA Accredited doctoral internship program.
- Administrative and management skills.
- Teaching, consultation and facilitation skills.
- Experience analyzing student health trends and using data-driven decision-making.
- Experience in developing and managing budgets.
- Demonstrated collaborative relationship building.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership & Departmental Oversight
- Provide vision, strategy, and content expertise for Counseling Services in alignment with student needs and the institutional mission.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Health Services and the Wellbeing Unit to integrate wellness services.
- Support the development of University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS) goals, objectives, policies, and reports.
- Develop and manage the departmental budget in collaboration with relevant units.
- Promote student success through the delivery and advancement of quality healthcare, counseling, and educational services.
- Provide mutual leadership backup with the Director of Health Services to ensure operational continuity.
Administrative & Operational Management
- Provide administrative oversight of clinical services and care delivery.
- Oversee policies, procedures, and risk management strategies for Counseling Services.
- Establish and maintain Quality Assurance and Risk Management programs to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements (AAAHC, APA).
- Analyze counseling services data and trends (e.g., patient outcomes, satisfaction) to support data-informed decision-making.
- Coordinate staff utilization of the electronic medical record system (Point and Click).
- Ensure administrative compliance for APA accreditation of the doctoral internship program.
Personnel Management & Supervision
- Oversee all aspects of personnel management, including recruitment, hiring, orientation, supervision, and evaluation.
- Organize and facilitate Counseling Services staff meetings.
- Assist Counseling Services staff in establishing individual goals and protocols.
- Provide direct supervision to clinical staff, including weekly supervision to at least one doctoral resident and other psychology trainees as needed.
- Supervise the Wellness Coordinator and Violence Prevention Coordinator.
- Demonstrate the ability to meet the supervision needs of a multidisciplinary counseling team.
Clinical Services
- Provide direct clinical care to students based on qualifications, scope of practice, and availability.
- Coordinate Counseling's collaboration with the CARE Team and facilitate the mandated assessment process.
Outreach, Consultation & Collaboration
- Conduct outreach and consultation services to university students, faculty, and staff.
- Participate in and support mental health promotion in collaboration with Health Services, Interpersonal Violence Prevention Education, and Wellness Services.
- Coordinate and/or provide presentations, workshops, and other programming.
- Work with the Student Health Advisory Committee to support student-led initiatives.
- Serve as the liaison for counseling-related matters with campus partners, external agencies, and other institutions.
- Assist with campus-wide mental health initiatives, including the JED initiative.
Institutional Engagement & Professional Development
- Serve on university and professional committees to advance mental health initiatives at the institutional level.
- Maintain a high level of professional competence by participating in continuing education and professional development.
