Antivirus Software

What is an Antivirus program?

Antivirus software is used to prevent, detect, and remove malware, including computer viruses, worms, and trojan horses from infecting your computer.  These are malicious cybersecurity agents that are used by criminals to exploit your computer or device and gain access to your personal information.

Installing an Antivirus program

Campus-owned devices come pre-installed with antivirus software.  For UW-W faculty and staff,  an antivirus program is required in order to connect to campus Wi-Fi.  It is also recommended to install antivirus software on your personal device, especially if you are planning to use campus resources such as VPN.  Students are also encouraged to install antivirus software on their devices in order to keep them secure as well as help protect the UW-W network as a whole.

Students, faculty, and staff can download AVG antivirus software for free on their personal devices.
