Desire2Learn (D2L) - Students

Desire2Learn (D2L) is an online course management system used by your instructors to provide you with "anytime, anywhere" access to course materials, such as syllabi, readings, lecture presentations, and multi-media files. D2L also includes many online tools that allow you to check your course grades, take online quizzes, contribute to and participate in online discussion boards, and much more. While all instructors teaching online courses use D2L, it is also used by most UW-Whitewater instructors in their face-to-face and hybrid/blended courses too.

All students currently enrolled in a course will automatically have a D2L account and access the D2L system. Using a web browser, you can login to your D2L account using your UW-Whitewater Net-ID.

D2L also has an electronic, personal portfolio tool, referred to as ePortfolio, that is used for storing, organizing, reflecting on and sharing items that represent your learning.

An ePortfolio can replace the need for a paper-based collection of examples of your work. You can include documents, graphics, audio files, videos, presentations, course work, etc. to demonstrate your improvement or mastery in a certain area. You decide what items you want to include in your ePortfolio, how you want to organize them, and who you want to share them with. When you share items with your peers, mentors, potential employers, etc., you can give them permission to view items, edit items, see or add comments, and see or add assessments depending on what type of feedback you want.

Some instructors use the ePortfolio tool in class assignments, and some programs require you to maintain an ePorfolio as you work through your academic major.

For additional information, please visit the ePortfolio section of the D2L Student User Guide.
