Messaging and Collaboration

UW-Whitewater utilizes Webex (formerly known as Webex Teams) as our campus-supported instant messaging tool to help with your communication and collaboration needs. With instant messaging, you can remain in constant contact with your colleagues, students, or classmates from anywhere and on any device!

To collaborate using Microsoft Teams as a guest after being invited by another organization, like UW System or another UW System school, use the invitation link you received from that organization, your email and Net-ID to login.

Messaging and Collaboration Features

Webex includes the following instant messaging features:

  • Real-time chat
  • Mobile Access
  • File Sharing
  • Break-out spaces
  • Video Conferencing
  • Whiteboarding
  • Screen Sharing

Check out additional Webex functionality on our Video-Conferencing service page!

Getting Started with Messaging and Collaboration

Cisco Webex is UW-Whitewater's premier communication and collaboration tool.  In addition to instant messaging,  you can host virtual meetings online using audio and video, share presentations and files and conduct online presentations using screen sharing. For more on Webex and its video-conferencing features, please visit our Video-Conferencing service page.  Webex also allows faculty and staff the ability to make and receive calls, view call history, and manage voicemails using Webex phone services.

  • Create ongoing collaboration spaces
  • Seamlessly share files, documents, and media
  • Start a video-conference instantly
  • Collaborate in real-time with live whiteboarding
  • Phone services

Webex comes pre-installed on all campus-owned devices. If your campus device does not have Webex, you can install the Webex App from Software Center (PC) or Self-Service (Mac).

For personal devices, simply browse to: the Webex website or you can download the mobile version in Google Play or the App Store.

How-To Guides and Training

UWW members can join a Microsoft (MS) Teams meeting anytime, from any device, even though UWW does not have Microsoft Teams enabled for our campus because Webex is UWW's primary messaging and collaboration service

To collaborate with Microsoft Teams, UWW members will join MS Teams meetings and chat channels via an invitation from an external organization, like UW System or a UW System school. Once that organization sends an invitation, UWW users can join meetings and access MS Teams through that organizations' account.
