Leadership Academy (LA)

Camp Description

The Office of PreCollege Programs offers this one-week camp for students in the 9th-12th grades with tiers of age-appropriate break-out sessions. The Inclusive Leadership Academy camp's overall goal is to develop student leaders in today’s diverse global community. The camp seeks to provide a path to developing inclusive leaders in PSE and beyond. Students will participate in activities each day related to different leadership topics including, but not limited to leadership in and out of the classroom, the meaning of inclusive leadership, leading as a member, leading as an exec board member, Robert’s Rules, budgeting for student organizations, careers in Student Affairs, and overall positive impact leadership.

Student are provided

  1. Innovative cross-curricular classroom instruction through a variety of leadership development topics;
  2. Hands-on activities in partnership with Student Activities and Involvement;
  3. Interactions with college faculty and students;
  4. Targeted development of critical thinking, problem solving, analytical and executive functioning skills while exploring leadership development;
  5. Support to build skills in personal stability around stress management and identifying personal mission

Students also experience a “Going to College” Workshop where they learn grade level appropriate direction in preparing for college (high school courses, financial literacy, career exploration, etc.).
