Campus operations are an integral part of how sustainability is practiced on a university campus. In fact, most initiatives that are considered part of campus sustainability fall under one of the categories listed in the menu on the left. As a publically funded university campus, we have a population that rivals many small cities (including Whitewater itself) and our environmental footprint is rather significant. Therefore, we have a urgent responsibility to pursue more sustainable practices so we lessen our overall footprint, both environmentally and economically.
The important relationship between campus sustainability and campus operations is so integral, the Campus Sustainabiilty Coordinator is a member of the Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) Department and generally oversees outreach efforts related to FP&M's collective efforts. While the outreach is an important step to build a more sustainable campus culture and reputation, it is the electricians, plumbers, custodians, landscapers, and their supervisors that do the real work of implementing our sustainable projects. These pages strive to capture these collective efforts and successes, but also envision some potential future projects to pursue as part of the sustainable path.
We always welcome input and involement from campus stakeholders, so please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns."Only within the moment of time represented by the present century has one species -- man -- acquired significant power to alter the nature of his world." - Rachel Carson
