Continuing Education Offers Classes!

Affordable online classes are now available through Continuing Education. These highly interactive noncredit classes are led by expert faculty, including nationally known authors. Over 300 classes are available in a wide range of subject areas. Many of these classes meet the professional development needs of the University Staff, including classes on "Business Finance for Non-Finance Personnel," "Achieving Success with Difficult People," and "Managing Customer Service." Browse the Continuing Education full catalog of classes here.

Classes start each month and are approximately six weeks long. There are no prerequisites for the courses and no experience in online classes needed. If the course content relates to your current position, talk with your supervisor about whether your professional development funds can cover the cost of the course (approximately $100 each).

Compensation Administration Tool

Due to a change in how state agencies record and budget hours, UW System has switched to using the Compensation Administration Tool (CAT) to calculate yearly salaries. As such, university staff budgeted salary lines are switching from 2088 hours to 2080. From our budget office: "The budgeted hours have been calculated at 2088 hours for many years to account for the 27th pay period that happens once every 11 years.  All state agencies are moving to budgeting at 2080 (which is the actual number of hours 1.0 FTE works in a year, 52 weeks*40 hours). Since we are moving to a new compensation tool for budgeting, UW System will be making the change now to budgets as well.  HRS will remain at 2088 until the next upgrade."

NEW TO CAMPUS? HAVE YOU BEEN HERE AWHILE?

Would you like to find out interesting facts and have a tour of the campus? The University Staff Outreach Committee conducts campus tours for staff monthly. To request a tour, send an email to the USC mailbox or contact any member of the committee.

PUBLIC EVENTS FOR UNIVERSITY STAFF

There are many campus events that are open to the public and that university staff are invited and encouraged to attend. These are lectures presented by our faculty and other experts in the field, and are great learning opportunities for everyone. Here is a LINK to a brochure for more information.

USC PERSONNEL REVIEW COMMITTEE

As of July 1, 2015, university staff may choose a panel of their peers to hear any grievances they may file, or to hear the appeal of a complaint filed against them. If you are a university staff member, or know one who may be interested in serving as an Impartial Hearing Officer (Grievance) or on a Complaint Review Committee (Complaints), please email usc@uww.edu for further information. The complete committee description is available in the Mission Statement and Bylaws link to the left.

University Personnel System Update

New personnel rules and policies took effect July 1, 2015.  The UPS Policy Committee is working on individual policies and looking for input and participation from all university staff.  Several policies have UW-Whitewater specific versions that have been approved by UW-W Administration and UW-System.  They are:  Grievance, Layoff, Workplace Conduct Expectations and Complaint.  Copies of the approved policies can be found on the Human Resources page.

Follow the Related Links to the left to view additional information.   If you are interested in participating in the continuing process of policy review, contact any of the UPS Policy Committee members for more information.

Facebook Page

The University Staff Council is now on Facebook.  The page is for university staff members to interact with each other and their representatives on USC Council about issues that affect employment or to share information with each other.  USC Council and committee members will also share events and resources and add files that are relevant to university employees.  More information may be found at the Facebook link.
