Too often, heritage language education reflects language, texts, images, and units that are largely Euro-centric. Spanish heritage language courses are no exception, despite the many and rich ways the African diaspora has shaped Latin American and Caribbean languages and cultures. This course will focus on the study of West African roots in Latin America, and developing strategies for incorporating Afro-centric curricula into Spanish heritage language courses.
