STUDENT JOBS

Student employment is a key component in the Warhawk experience. UW-Whitewater invests approximately $5 million annually in student jobs on campus, and University Housing hires dozens of students annually to work positions in facilities, technology, and customer service. Jobs for college students are available in housing year round.

Residence life jobs

Custodial crew (available year round)

Job responsibilities

  • Assist with mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning walls, windows, floors, carpets, and other custodial tasks
  • Maintain general cleanliness of assigned areas
  • Assist in the setup and take down of rooms
  • Assist with laundry as needed

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Basic knowledge of housekeeping is helpful
  • Some weekend work may be required

Utility crew (available during the summer term)

Job responsibilities

  • Move furniture, materials, equipment and setup for various events
  • Make deliveries of various products to the residence halls
  • Inspect and repair bike lockers
  • Continuously lift of a variety of items, including furniture and supplies
  • Adjust loftable beds, set up bed frames, and place loft kits in student rooms

Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift more than 50 pounds on a continual basis through the workday
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record

Grounds crew (available during the summer term)

Job responsibilities

  • Help maintain campus grounds with the use of chemicals in some spaces
  • Work outside in all elements

Qualifications

  • Must be able to operate various grounds equipment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Knowledge of proper techniques, maintenance, and irrigation of vegetation is helpful

Maintenance crew (available during the summer term)

Job responsibilities

  • Conduct room inspections, including inspection and repair of dressers, desks, mirrors and brackets, bed legs, doors, hinges and strike plates, and closet curtains, and cleaning of heaters
  • Use hand and power tools, painting tools, painting products, wood finishing products, and cleaning supplies

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in maintenance is helpful

Painter and utility (available during the fall and spring semesters)

Job responsibilities

  • Paint accent walls and wiremold around TV installations
  • Assist in installation of wall-mount televisions and digital signage
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Past experience with painting is helpful
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Experience with painting is helpful

Window crew (available during the summer term)

Job responsibilities

  • Wash windows inside and out
  • Clean window tracks
  • Repair screens
  • Remove and replace windows
  • Work with a team of others on a daily basis
  • Use squeegees, screwdrivers, utility knives, pry bars, and screen repair tools

Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from shoulder height to the floor
  • Must be able to stand, twist, bend, stop, kneel, and climb stairs on a regular basis
  • Some weekend work may be required

Clerical assistant (available year round)

Job responsibilities

  • Perform routine office and clerical duties, including
    • Answering the phone
    • Typing correspondence
    • Processing documents
    • Filing and copying
    • Opening and distributing mail
    • Running errands
    • Processing documents
    • Acting as a receptionist
    • Giving information
    • Making appointments
    • Distributing forms

Qualifications

  • Typing and word processing skills may be required
  • Data entry knowledge in specific areas may be required
  • Familiarity with software programs may be helpful

Graphic designer (available during the fall and spring semesters)

Job responsibilities

  • Work with technology staff
  • Provide graphic and layout assistance as needed
  • Develop graphics for website, digital signage, and wall postings
  • Work with craft printers to create promotional items

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is preferred
  • Photography skills are helpful

Front desk (available during the fall and spring semesters)

Job responsibilities

  • Assist residents
  • Be a positive role model
  • Check out hall equipment to residents
  • Check out loaner keys to residents
  • Communicate reminders and dates of lock change information to residents
  • Post information in lobby areas as directed
  • Maintain a neat, clean desk and lobby area
  • Monitor the hall lobby and entrance
  • Answer the phone
  • Provide information and directions
  • Provide clerical assistance to the University Housing staff
  • Assist in emergency situations as directed
  • Assist in the opening and closing of the residence hall
  • Perform other general duties as assigned by the complex directors or assistant complex directors

Camp and project specialist (available during the summer term)

Job responsibilities

  • Maintain safe and secure hall environments
  • Work the central desk at Goodhue Hall
  • Prepare the residence halls
  • Assist with summer projects
  • Welcome and assist guests
  • Assist with check-ins and check-outs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Availability and accessibility to participants in camps and conferences on weekdays and weekends is required
  • Availability to work nights and weekends is required
