Undergraduate Advising
The College of Business and Economics provides excellence in developmental academic advising and complementary programming focused on encouraging and assisting students to explore, define, and achieve academic goals that are consistent with their personal and professional interests. We deliver high quality, student-centered advising that supports whole student development, helps students progress through self-exploration and major declaration and persist to graduation, and supports students experiencing academic difficulty.
It is important to meet with your academic adviser regularly. The curriculum in the College of Business and Economics is designed so that students can complete a degree in four years; however, prerequisites are important and strictly enforced. Your adviser will ensure your degree plan follows the prescribed order.
In addition to degree planning, your academic adviser can help you find student organizations and groups on campus that are related to your major. These activities provide applied learning opportunities and help you build your network of contacts, which will advance your career opportunities.

Advising Syllabus
Each student's academic adviser is listed in the WINS Student Center. You may contact your adviser directly to schedule an appointment.
Students can also use the Navigate app, an external site, to schedule an advising session. Choose a "Drop-In" appointment for a quick 15-minute question or an "Advising Appointment" for a full 30-minute appointment.

Choosing the correct major is an important decision, and finding the right major will play a critical role in your success both here in the College of Business and Economics and when you enter the job market. It is a decision worth a good amount of consideration, conversation and preparation.

Eligibility to change to a business major
To declare a business major, the following combined cumulative grade point averages (GPA) are required:
- Students with less than 24 credits—2.0 combined GPA
- Students with 24 to 72 credits—2.5 combined GPA
To change from a non-business major to a business major, please go to the department of your current non-business major to complete a Major/Minor Change Form. Bring the completed form to the Advising Office located in room 1200 of Hyland Hall.
Current business majors wanting to add an emphasis, add a minor, or change to a different business major can make this request by speaking with an adviser.

Minors in the College of Business and Economics allow students to complement their major with focused study in a specialized business discipline. Each minor is designed to broaden career preparation, strengthen analytical and professional skills, and provide additional pathways for applied learning across business fields.
Students interested in pursuing a minor can explore requirements and course options in the official university catalog. Adding a minor can enhance your academic plan, expand your professional opportunities, and help you tailor your degree to your career goals. Meet with your academic adviser to discuss how a minor fits into your degree plan and supports your long term interests.

Note: The process below applies to undergraduate Special No‑Credential Seeking students. Graduate students wishing to register as Non‑Candidate for Degree should contact gradbus@uww.edu.
Undergraduate special no‑credential students follow a three‑step process: apply, request permission, and enroll.
Step 1: Apply
Use the Apply Now link to access the UW System application portal.
Step 2: Request Permission to Enroll
- After admission, you will receive a seven‑digit UW‑Whitewater ID number. Use this ID to complete the online permission form.
- You must upload an unofficial transcript showing you meet course prerequisites and indicate the exact course and section you want.
- You will receive an email within one week confirming permission and providing your registration date. Permission expires after that date.
- In the case of seats opening because someone drops the class, the form you completed requesting permission to enroll in a course will keep you on a waitlist, and those next in line will be notified and given permission to enroll.
- FERPA regulations only allow us to communicate with accepted students about personal educational requirements and classes.
Step 3: Enroll
Once permission is granted, log into WINS using your Net-ID. If you do not enroll by the deadline in your confirmation email, you will lose your spot.

The Career and Leadership Development office supports several career fairs on campus, where you can meet with organizations offering internships and full-time career employment. Check the career fairs and events schedule for more details, including information on other career fairs in the region.
- Accounting Career Fair: Approximately 65 employers attend in September
- Fall Hawk Career Fair: Approximately 157 employers attend in October
- Spring Hawk Career Fair: Approximately 133 employers in February
