Internships

The best way to gain relevant work experience and obtain that first career position is through an internship.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), 91 percent of employers look for full-time job candidates with work experience and 65 percent prefer experience relevant to the position. NACE also reported that over 50 percent of interns convert to a full-time hire.

Internships build on the skills and knowledge gained in the classroom. In addition to boosting a student's marketability, they provide opportunities to determine whether a career path, industry or even an individual organization is what the student is truly seeking. This applied learning experience is highly encouraged and is an excellent way to earn valuable credits towards degree requirements.

If you would like more information, the Career and Leadership Development office is an invaluable internship resource. You may also contact Frank Lanko, Senior Career Business Adviser, directly for assistance. In addition, you are encouraged to build your profile and post your resume on Handshake, an easy-to-use job and internship search tool where alumni and employers post positions available to UW-Whitewater students and alumni.

For information on internships specific to a particular degree or major, please contact the department associated with that degree program.
