Accounting Department Mission Statement

We provide a comprehensive accounting education that prepares students for success by developing their technical and interpersonal skills. Faculty, employers, and alumni provide a supportive community that fosters students’ personal and professional growth. We prepare our students to meet real-world challenges through transformational experiences in the classroom, internships, and community service, among others. (Dec. 2019)

More Information About Accounting

Professionals with an accounting degree can work in almost any industry imaginable. Not only is the field of accounting experiencing significant growth, but regulation changes and technology advancements ensure there is no shortage of opportunities and challenges. This field of study may be a good fit for individuals that are detail-orientated, enjoy working with numbers and have an aptitude for technology.

The College of Business and Economics offers a rich breadth of co-curricular activities to enhance student development and learning outcomes, including award-winning student organizations and applied learning experiences. These efforts, as well as the college's outstanding reputation for its accounting program, have resulted in a 100 percent placement rate for accounting majors within six months of graduation. The Master of Professional Accountancy program fulfills the additional credits required for CPA licensure, and our graduates' first-time exam pass rate consistently exceeds state and national averages. MPA graduates also have a 100 percent placement rate within six months of graduation.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater College of Business and Economics has earned accounting accreditation from AACSB International, also known as The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.  With this achievement, UW-Whitewater joined the top 2 percent of the world's business schools that have earned AACSB accounting accreditation in addition to AACSB business accreditation.
