Please DO NOT install Office 365 applications on campus-imaged computers or devices, this subscription is for personal devices only.  

Features of Office 365:

  • Enrolled students, faculty, and staff can download and install Microsoft Office 365 on up to five personal devices.
  • The software is available for PCs, Macs, and mobile devices (iOS & Android).
  • Includes Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, OneNote, and OneDrive. 
  • The subscriptions enable access to Microsoft Office 365, along with the downloadable version offline use. 
  • Devices must be able to connect to the internet at least once every 30 days to retain their activation for Office.
  • Students will lose access to the free software when enrollment at UW-Whitewater is discontinued.

Google Drive is the main campus solution for online document creation and collaboration, simply sign in using your uww.edu email address. Microsoft Office 365 is a cloud-based software solution. Access all O365 apps by signing in at https://login.microsoftonline.com/.

Office 365 FAQs

Yes, this is a full version Microsoft Office and it is available for offline use by downloading the apps using the "Install Apps" option. However, you must connect to the internet once every 30 days to verify they are still eligible for the subscription. The subscription also comes with an online version of Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus that does not require a download. 

Microsoft provides the latest version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and OneNote in your free subscriptions for both Mac and Windows. 

UW-Whitewater Mac and Windows computers may have a different version of Microsoft Office installed. 

Students

Access to Microsoft Office 365 will continue long as you are actively enrolled in classes at UW-Whitewater. Be sure to save or print your files before leaving the university. You have the option of purchasing Office 365 directly from Microsoft, or through OnTheHub.

Faculty and Staff

Access to Microsoft Office 365 will continue long as you are actively employed by UW-Whitewater, this includes full-time, part-time, and limited-term employees. Be sure to save or print your files before leaving the university.

The Help Desk can assist with authentication issues. In other words, the process of verifying that you are a university employee or student, enabling you to access your free subscription. The Help Desk does not support or repair personal devices, and since Microsoft Office 365 is for use on personal devices, the Help Desk is unable to assist with issues related to personal devices. If you do experience an issue with your Microsoft Office 365 subscription, it is recommended that you contact the Help Desk to determine if they can help. If the issue is not related to authentication, you may want to contact the vendor you purchased your device from for further assistance. 

If you do experience issues downloading Microsoft Office 365, you may want to try using the online version.

Each person, whether student, faculty, or staff, has up to five licenses available to them. So if you own a Windows desktop, a Mac laptop, and an iPad - you can download Microsoft Office 365 applications to all three devices. Please do not attempt to install Microsoft Office 365 to a campus-imaged device. These subscriptions are for personally-owned devices only. 

Once you save your file to OneDrive, you can use the online version of OneDrive from your campus laptop or desktop to retrieve the file. You can then download and save it to a network drive or other campus storage area if needed.
