The UHCS laboratory at UW-Whitewater provides meaningful test information to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Our laboratory is accredited by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation (COLA).

The UHCS laboratory processes a wide variety of test requests. Some tests are performed in the UHCS laboratory and some are sent out to reference laboratories. There is a nominal fee for most of the laboratory tests. Fees are added to your student bill.

Common tests performed in the lab

  • Blood glucose testing
  • Complete blood counts
  • Mono tests
  • Pregnancy tests
  • Rapid strep tests
  • Screening for STIs
  • Urinalysis

Courtesy Lab
Courtesy Lab is a service provided by UHCS, which allows a student to have laboratory testing done with written orders from their personal physician. Results are conveyed to the ordering physician according to the information provided by the student in the "courtesy lab agreement". Call UHCS if you would like to set up a courtesy lab appointment.

Immunizations available at UHCS

Influenza vaccination
The flu shot is available as a shot. It is given every year in the fall. The mist can be given to people between the ages of 5 and 50. You can discuss with a UHCS provider whether this would be an appropriate option for you. Call 472-1300 for an appointment.

Influenza (flu) is a serious disease of the nose, throat, and lungs. It can make you sick for a week or longer with coughing, fever, aching, and more. And it can lead to pneumonia. You should get your influenza vaccination every year.

If you live with or take care of people at high risk, it is especially important that you get vaccinated too. When you protect yourself, you help protect your family and friends.

Flu shots are free for students at UHCS.
