Aikido

      Aikido Martial Arts Club (AMAC)

      Overview

Our club practices a particular martial art known as Aikido. This martial arts form is relatively new in the world, founded in the 1920s by the late Morihei Ueshiba. His purpose for developing the art was to create a way to use your opponent's energy against them, "harmonizing" with them, subduing them without harming either you or the aggressor. The focus is on the technique and as such, everyone is able to practice Aikido since good physical prowess is not required. In fact, when a technique is done properly, even a small child is capable of putting a full grown man on the ground. Aikido is very effective at incapacitating an opponent; however the main objective is for Aikido to be used as a form of self-defense.
