ATTENTION:

The Department of Psychology in the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the area of developmental psychology beginning August 2018. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in developmental psychology, research, and service to the university and community. Research expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and should include specialization in developmental psychology or developmental science with a focus on childhood.

JOB DETAILS:

The successful candidate will be able to develop and teach undergraduate courses in developmental psychology, including child development and lifespan development, a graduate course in advanced child development or learning as part of the School Psychology Program, and introductory courses in psychology and the general education curriculum. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community. The Department is especially interested in candidates who have a strong commitment and specialized training in pedagogical approaches that are effective for engaging underrepresented and first-generation undergraduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. in developmental psychology or developmental science is required. ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2018; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2019 in advance of their first scheduled review. Demonstrated record of or evident potential for successful teaching, with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate and graduate students, is essential. Clear evidence of scholarly potential, including maintaining a strong program of research that involves undergraduate students in meaningful ways, is required, along with commitment to working with diverse populations and serving as active member of the university community. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Full-Time teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate courses in developmental psychology, including child development and lifespan development, a graduate course in advanced child development or learning as part of the School Psychology Program, and introductory courses in psychology and the general education curriculum. Research expectations include maintaining an active program of research with opportunities for undergraduate involvement. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities may include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community and/or professional organizations as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach online and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings. Faculty may also elect to teach New Student Seminar or University Learning Communities, or participate in other programs geared toward improving student success.
