ATTENTION:

The Department of Mathematics in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater invites applications for one full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 21, 2019.

JOB DETAILS:

The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in statistics and mathematics. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications, and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate or ABD (with expectation of completion by August 21, 2019) in statistics or the mathematical sciences in any area related to statistics or actuarial science. (ABD candidates who do not complete their degree by August 21, 2019 will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2020 in advance of their first scheduled review.)
Desired Qualifications:
  • A commitment to excellence in teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students, clear evidence of scholarly potential, commitment to working with diverse populations and serving as an active member of the university community, and effective oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to teach courses in the department’s Statistics and Actuarial Science emphases. Potential for interdisciplinary research and ability to promote undergraduate research.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Responsibilities include teaching 12 undergraduate credits per semester from courses in statistics and mathematics. In addition to teaching duties, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarly activity, and to participate in service activities including, but not limited to, advising students, committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels, program assessment, and curriculum development. Responsibilities also include a willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills as well as the ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
