ATTENTION:

The Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Anthropology in the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Sociology and Criminology beginning August 2020. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in sociology and criminology, research, and service to the university and community. Research expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and should include state and corporate crime; race and crime; and law.

JOB DETAILS:

The successful candidate will be able to teach State and Corporate Crime, Race and Crime, Sociology of Law, and Individual & Society as part of the Sociology and Criminology Programs. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications and contributes to advancing the department, the university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. in Sociology or closely related field is required. ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2020. The candidate will demonstrate excellence in and a commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students, clear evidence of scholarly potential, a commitment to working with diverse populations and service as an active member of the university community. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Full-Time teaching responsibilities include State and Corporate Crime, Race and Crime, Sociology of Law and Individual & Society. Candidates should demonstrate clear evidence of scholarly potential, pursue grants and engage in undergraduate research with students. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The multi-disciplinary department has 22 full and part-time faculty and academic staff. It serves over 450 undergraduate majors, among the largest number of majors in the university, and over 500 minors. It offers four undergraduate certificate programs, three student organizations, two national honor societies, as well as internship and undergraduate research opportunities for all students.
