ATTENTION:

The Instructional, Communication, and Information Technology (ICIT) Department seeks a Director of IT Operations.

JOB DETAILS:


The Director of IT Operations has two primary areas of responsibility: to assure efficient operations of ICIT organization and to facilitate strategic alignment with the University’s goals, objectives and plans.

The person in this position acts as the operational leader of ICIT, overseeing personnel development and recruitment functions, budget and contract management, and relationship management with all units of the university. The Director of Operations is responsible for achieving operational excellence of the ICIT organization by developing of and ensuring adherence to the Information Technology policies, procedures, and guidelines, and managing support and logistics functions of the organization.

In the area of strategic alignment, the Director of Operations will facilitate the ICIT strategic planning and reporting process, advocating for and executing programs to ensure the innovative application of technologies in support of UW-Whitewater initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management or in IT related field
  • 10+ years of IT Management experience
  • Senior experience in Project Management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
  • Proven ability to lead a diverse workforce
  • Demonstrated teamwork and abilities to effectively balance a broad range of competing interests.
  • Knowledge of financial/business practices
Highly Desired Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in management within Higher Education environment
  • A clear vision and understanding of the current and developing trends in higher education
  • Strategic planning and advanced leadership skills and maturity
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment to provide high quality services and establish consensus
  • High level of negotiating skills
  • High level of conflict management skills
RESPONSIBILITIES:

40%   A. Personnel development

  1. Ensure that every member of iCIT team has a short and a long term career development plan and annual performance goals
  2. Facilitate the process of establishing performance benchmarks and performance in collaboration with directors, managers and team leads
  3. Facilitate personnel recruitment process, including review of position descriptions to assure alignment with organizational needs
30%   B. Operational Excellence, managing department alignment with Campus best practices
  1. Development of Information Technology policies, procedures, and guidelines
  2. Manage operational and logistics units such as Help Desk, procurement and asset management, lab and classroom management, and office technology support.
  3. Ensure adherence to ITIL guidelines
  4. Manage operational relationships with local technology staff throughout the units on campus, striving for alignment of responsibilities and clarity of expectations
  5. Facilitate development of Service Catalog, SLAs and SLOs
  6. Introduce process improvement to make sure support and service request issues are addressed timely
  7. Drive automation and self-service to the extent possible
  8. Support effective functioning of the PMO office (project management/business analysis) as a service to ICIT and the campus
  9. Work with the PMO to facilitate transition from project to operations for new services.
15%   C. Strategic Alignment
  1. Facilitate ICIT strategic planning process
  2. Oversee annual reporting process
  3. Engage PMO to facilitate tracking progress against strategic plan
  4. Work with the PMO, other ICIT Directors, service owners and advocates to ensure resource alignment and service/application roadmap alignment with strategic goals
  5. Coordinate execution of strategic initiatives
10%   D. Budget and Contract Management
  1. Oversee budget development and other fiscal matters financial processes
  2. Oversee enterprise technology licensing and renewal agreements
  3. Oversee development of contracts and MOUs with external entities
5%    E. Other Duties as Assigned
  1. Represent the Chief Information Officer in any absences or as requested
  2. Will be an active participant in the following of safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
