ATTENTION:

The Academic Advising and Exploration Center department seeks two (2) Academic Advisor's.

JOB DETAILS:

Responsibilities include advising first-year students with program planning, general course selection and registration. Other related responsibilities include monitoring progression through schedule checks, progress reports and workshops. Advisor will participate in Plan-It Purple Days and Warhawk Premiere Days. The advisor may teach one section of the New Student Seminar in addition to other duties as assigned, which could include serving as coordinator of the Testing Office or Academic Support Center. Serve as a mentor to at least one associate advisor in the AAEC. Serve as the lead liaison for one of the Colleges or Undeclared advising if needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required (by the start date)
  • Two years of work experience in in a higher education setting (academic advising preferred)
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar Student Information System highly preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to work with a student centered-advising team and diverse population
  • Demonstration of excellent organizational, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Involvement on a college campus (as a professional)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Host Jumpstart (group advising sessions) during the first week of classes
  2. Pre-advise approximately 250 students during weeks 2-5
  3. Advise approximately 250 students during weeks 6-13 on gened/degree/major/minor requirements to prepare students for registration
  4. Assist students with registration during weeks 13-14
  5. Participate in Warhawk Premiere Days & Plan-It Purple programs
  6. Schedule CareerLocker Workshops and follow-up with Exploration meetings with undeclared students to explore resources opportunities and create a major/career action plan
  7. Assist with walk-in advising for both AAEC clientele and non-clientele by meeting face-to-face, responding to emails or answering phone calls
  8. Review CareerLocker assessments with students
  9. Discuss mid-term progress reports with at-risk students during week 8
  10. Host academic probation meeting with at-risk students during the first week of spring
  11. Recheck schedules at the conclusion of each semester
  12. Recheck schedules at the completion of Plan-It Purple programs
  13. Recheck schedules after Advanced Placement/IB credits are uploaded in August
  14. Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  15. Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The Academic Advising and Exploration Center is a comprehensive first-year advising center with 20 staff and 5 Graduate Assistant's. The office provides advising to most first-year students and 200 undecided sophomores; the director supervises the Coordinator of the Pathways for Success program and the Associate Director who serves as the Coordinator for Testing and Academic Standards.
