ATTENTION:

The Department of University Advancement seeks a Senior Development Specialist (Development Officer).

JOB DETAILS:

The Development Officer secures major gifts for the UW-Whitewater Foundation to support the mission of the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater and serves as a liaison to one or more university programs. This role connects alumni and friends in ways that are meaningful to them to inspire charitable support at the highest levels. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 5 years’ experience in one of the following areas: public relations, marketing or major gift fundraising
Desired Qualifications:
  • An educational fundraising background
  • Experience in working with donor databases
  • Customer service background
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Integrity, exceptional relationship-building skills, strong written and oral communication abilities and the ability to professionally represent the university
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, a strategic mind, and the ability to work independently and as a team
  • Willingness and the ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:

60%   A. Major Donor Fundraising
  1. Use the moves management process to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of approximately 100 major gift ($10K+) prospects. Utilize donor database and existing research tools to identify potential prospects.
  2. Hold at least 100 face-to-face meetings with prospects annually as well as utilize other personal communication tools to develop strong donor relationships with the university. Connect prospects with appropriate leadership, faculty, programs and students that align with the prospects’ philanthropic interests and values.
  3. Work with donors on all giving vehicles including cash gifts, planned giving, real estate, stocks, etc.
  4. As a member of the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement team, participate in setting the long-range fundraising strategy for the University as well as the short-term tactics to reach annual and multi-year campaign goals.
  5. Travel in state as well as to assigned out of state regions to encourage philanthropy and alumni engagement among top prospects.
20%   B. Program Liaison
  1. Serve as the philanthropy liaison to assigned programs on campus. Assist program personnel to establish philanthropy and alumni engagement strategy, including donor stewardship events, alumni engagement opportunities and fundraising.
  2. Assist program staff in prioritizing fundraising goals and establishing strong donor relationships.
  3. Actively cultivate a culture of philanthropy within the university by developing trust-based relationships with faculty, staff and students.
15%   C. Alumni Engagement
  1. Work with the Alumni Engagement team to plan programs and events to increase alumni engagement. Attend events to provide assistance and identify/cultivate/steward major gift prospect relationships.
  2. Recruit volunteers for boards, Alumni Mentor Program, class guest speaking, etc. to engage alumni and friends in the life of the university.
5%   D. Other Tasks
  1. As a member of the Philanthropy team, maintain accurate donor records, attend and contribute to division meetings and keep current on Foundation policies and procedures.
  2. Serve as the lead on special projects, as assigned.
  3. Due to the nature of the work, occasional evening and weekend responsibilities as well as in-state and out-of-state travel are essential parts of the position.
