ATTENTION:

The College of Education and Professional Studies seeks an Advisor (College Advisor).

JOB DETAILS:

The full-time position of advisor in the College of Education and Professional Studies (COEPS) includes advising across seven departments in the college. Responsibilities include program planning, course selection, transfer advising, registration, and admission to Professional Education. The advisor will also represent the College at campus, state, regional, and national events and assist with the day-to-day administrative functions of the advising assistance center. This position reports to the Advising Coordinator of the COEPS.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The College of Education and Professional Studies (COEPS) Advisor shall serve in a general assistant capacity and will perform functions assigned by the Advising Coordinator and Associate Dean:

A. Administrative Responsibilities
  1. Represent or co-represent COEPS at state, regional, national, and international meetings related to advising as assigned by the Advising Coordinator.
  2. Along with the other members of the COEPS Administration team, make presentations to prospective and enrolled students regarding the College, its programs, and requirements. Presentations may include, but are not limited to, Warhawk Premiere and Warhawk Ready days, Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) Days, New Student Seminars, Foundations Block courses, and student organizations.
  3. Assist Advising Coordinator with processing student applications to Admission to Professional Education ensuring admission requirements have been met. Assist with student, staff, and faculty inquiries across campus related to the Admission process.
  4. Undertake special projects as assigned by the Advising Coordinator and in conjunction with the Associate Dean.
  5. Represent COEPS on university committees, as needed.
  6. Assist with processing of various reports.
  7. Assume other duties as assigned by the Advising Coordinator.
B. Support Advising and Registration
  1. Maintain a caseload of Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Physical Education major advisees with sophomore status and above who are not yet admitted to Professional Education.
  2. Meet with all advisees individually at least once per semester and provide regular communication via e-mail (i.e., send reminders, deadlines, etc.) throughout the semester.
  3. Provide preliminary advising over e-mail, phone, and in-person to prospective transfer students related to program, licensure, major, and minor options, Admission to Professional Education, general education and PI 34 requirements, and course options before transferring to UW-Whitewater.
  4. Coordinate all Group Advising meetings during Priority Registration.
  5. Assist with all New Student and Transfer SOAR days.
  6. Deliver general student advising sessions (e.g., PI 34, general education, Admission to Professional Education, etc.).
  7. Deliver specialized group sessions as needed (e.g., transfer advising, MC-EA redesign, admission requirement changes, etc.).
C. Activities Related to the Position
  1. Create/Develop/maintain COEPS advising/admissions webpage
  2. Create/develop/maintain advising-related and COEPS-related materials as needed.
  3. Act as liaison between students and program coordinators in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and Physical Education.
  4. Work with Assistant Dean to design, develop, and implement data collection processes in the advising office.
  5. Serve as a liaison with other campus departments that provide relevant student services: Career and Leadership Development, First Year Experience, and the Center for Students with Disabilities.
  6. Represent COEPS at UW Colleges’ and Wisconsin Technical Colleges’ “Transfer Fairs and support other recruitment initiatives such as the Wisconsin School Counselor Association Conference (WSCA), DPS Teacher World College Fair, etc.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.
