The UW-Whitewater Testing Office provides a variety of services to meet your testing and assessment needs.

Test Description
American College Testing (ACT) This college entrance exam is used to help determine admission to the university and placement in English and Math at UW-Whitewater (please refer to the Placement Guide and Retro Credits for Foreign Language for more information).

Law School Admission Test (LSAT) This test is an integral part of the law school admission process in the United States, Canada, and a growing number of other countries. It provides a standard measure of acquired reading and verbal reasoning skills that law schools can use as one of several factors in assessing applicants.

Praxis I -- Pre-Professional Skills Test This test measures basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. In addition to licensure, these tests are often used to qualify candidates for entry into a teacher education program.

Praxis II -- Subject Assessment These tests measure subject-specific content knowledge, as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills, that you need for beginning teaching.

Wisconsin Foundations of Reading (NES)

Pearson VUE provides a full suite of services from test development to data management, and delivers exams through the world's most comprehensive and secure network of test centers in 175 countries.
National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification (NCE) The NCE is used for two purposes: national counselor certification and state counselor licensure. The purpose of the NCE is to assess knowledge, skills, and abilities viewed as important for providing effective counseling services. The NCE is designed to be general in nature. It is intended to assess cognitive knowledge which should be known by all counselors regardless of their individual professional specialties.

UW State System Placement Exams These tests are used for placement in Math, English, and Foreign Language on campuses in the University of Wisconsin system.  Note: Math and English placement is based on ACT/SAT sub-scores in those areas on the UW-Whitewater campus (please refer to the Placement Guide and Retro Credits for Foreign Language for more information).

Graduate Records Exam  (GRE) This test is an integral part in the admission process for graduate or business school and reflects the kind of thinking you'll do during your academic career.

Please refer to Schedule a Test for this date and to register for the GRE, or proceed to the GRE website below. There is no fee to take this exam at UW-Whitewater-students only pay the fee charged by the Educational Testing Service.
College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) The 33 subject-level exams are offered in diverse disciplines and cover college-level baccalaureate credit courses. Thousands of colleges and universities recognize and recommend CLEP exams for credit to students of all kind.  Please refer to the Exams for Credit for more information.

DSST Exams Recommended for credit by the American Council on Education (ACE), the 38 subject-level exams are offered in diverse disciplines and cover upper and lower-level baccalaureate credit courses. Thousands of colleges and universities recognize and recommend DSST exams for credit to students of all kind, from adult learners to returning veterans!  Please refer to the Exams for Credit for more information.

Language Testing International (OPIc and WPT) LTI works collaboratively with states to certify World Language, ESL and Bilingual language teachers through the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), ACTFL OPI - computer (OPIc) and ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test (WPT).

Castle Worldwide Exams

 

 

Castle Worldwide provides testing and training design, development, and delivery services to certification and licensure organizations, government agencies, corporations, educational institutions, and trade and professional associations.

Departmental Exams These tests are offered by various departments at UW-Whitewater for credit or waivers of course requirements.  Please refer to the Exams for Credit for more information.

Miscellaneous Exams The Testing Office can proctor/administer exams for UW-Whitewater courses or departments or for other universities.  The Testing Office can also meet other testing needs of students.  Please refer to the Exams for Credit for more information.

Pearson VUE provides a full suite of services from test development to data management, and delivers exams through the world's most comprehensive and secure network of test centers in 175 countries.

Please refer to Schedule a Test to schedule a test date or refer to links to the individual test below or to the Pearson Vue website.  The Testing Office administration fee is paid to the Testing Office by Pearson Vue- this fee is a fixed cost for all Pearson Vue Internet-Based Testing Centers, and is part of your initial exam fee.

UW State System Placement Exams

These tests are used for placement in Math, English, and Foreign Language on campuses in the University of Wisconsin system.  Note: Math and English placement is based on ACT/SAT sub-scores in those areas on the UW-Whitewater campus (please refer to the Placement Guide and Retro Credits for Foreign Language for more information).

Paper and Pencil or Computer Based Placement exams are offered to incoming students of a University of Wisconsin System school during the spring semester or early summer on the UW-Whitewater campus.  Please refer to Schedule a Test for a list of national and state testing dates and to register for placement testing, or proceed to the Center for Placement Testing website below. 

There is no fee to take this exam at UW-Whitewater (UW-Whitewater attendees have a course placement testing fee included as part of their tuition bill and other campuses may have a similar policy).  Note: Incoming freshman students must register for a paper and pencil or computer-based testing date during the state testing dates. International students will be tested during their orientation program prior to the start of their first semester.  Current UW-Whitewater students and transfer students can take these tests in the Testing Office (they are offered multiple times each week)-please visit Schedule a Test, and be aware that a $25 Testing Office administration fee will be charged.

Graduate Records Exam (GRE)

This test is an integral part in the admission process for graduate or business school and reflects the kind of thinking you'll do during your academic career.

UW-Whitewater only offers the GRE subject tests.  These tests are only offered during the November national test date.  Please refer to Schedule a Test for this date and to register for the GRE, or proceed to the GRE website below.  There is no fee to take this exam at UW-Whitewater-students only pay the fee charged by the Educational Testing Service.

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The 33 subject-level exams are offered in diverse disciplines and cover college-level baccalaureate credit courses. Thousands of colleges and universities recognize and recommend CLEP exams for credit to students of all kind.  Please refer to the Exams for Credit for more information.

Please refer to Schedule a Test to schedule test date and then refer to the CLEP website below to complete a registration form and submit payment information.  There is a $25 Testing Office administration fee for each exam taken at UW-Whitewater-students must also pay an exam fee to CLEP for each exam taken.

Language Testing International (OPIc and WPT) 

LTI works collaboratively with states to certify World Language, ESL and Bilingual language teachers through the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), ACTFL OPI - computer (OPIc) and ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test (WPT).  UW-Whitewater students must take the following exams:

French/German/Spanish Education majors - both exams (OPIc and WPT)

            French/German/Spanish Education minors - both exams (OPIc and WPT)

           French/German/Spanish majors (non-Education) - only the OPIc

            French/German/Spanish minors (non-Education) - no exam
