ATTENTION:

The Advising and Career Services Center in the College of Business and Economics seeks an Academic Advisor.

JOB DETAILS:

Under the direction of the Assistant Dean and in collaboration with fellow advisors, college administrators, campus partners and college faculty; the Academic Advisor provides academic related information and advice to students in the College of Business and Economics undergraduate academic programs. Academic Advisors are responsible for providing educational guidance and assistance for students by planning schedules, recommending courses, determining appropriate education solutions for different types of students and facilitating the student’s academic and personal development. As the College and University grow, this position may also advise online students and freshmen.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Two years of experience in a Higher Education setting.
  • The position requires the ability to work with a diverse population and demonstration of excellent organizational, communication (virtual, oral, written) and interpersonal skills, in addition to flexibility and ability to manage a variety of issues as they occur.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in business, business education or academic program administration.
  • Two or more years of recent professional advising experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Interpersonal communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to work with a student-centered advising team and diverse population.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to handle various situations and think strategically in responding to issues.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

75% A. Student Services Administrative Duties and General Advising
  1. Provide holistic academic advising to College of Business and Economics students with 24 or more credits.
  2. Provide advising through individual appointments, group advising sessions, informational sessions and D2L advising courses.
  3. Participate in SOAR and Warhawk Premiere Days providing advising to incoming students and prospective students.
  4. Analyze student records in preparation for advising appointments and advising planning.
  5. Receives and gives referrals to and from faculty and other University offices for students’ major considerations, academic issues, or personal concerns.
  6. Reviews student files to ensure deadlines are met for completing various graduation requirements and other specific program requirements.
  7. Assists departments and faculty in advising through policy interpretations, academic records, evaluations and other requested data, recommendations and conclusions.
  8. Perform supplemental administrative activities such as scheduling meetings, securing requested information, verifying and maintaining Image Now records and preparing summary reports as necessary.
  9. Perform related duties as required or deemed necessary by the Assistant Dean to meet the CoBE Advising Center goals within the Advisor’s scope of responsibility.
