ATTENTION:

The College of Education and Professional Studies seeks a Student Services Coordinator (COEPS Recruitment and Retention Programs Advisor).

JOB DETAILS:

This is a twelve-month position that reports to the Advising Coordinator of the College of Education and Professional Studies (COEPS). Two key purposes of this position are to:

50% Develop and conduct high impact retention programming, which includes advising for undergraduate and graduate students in the College.

50% Develop and conduct recruitment programming for pre-service teachers from underrepresented backgrounds, those majoring in disciplines experiencing teacher shortages in the state, non-traditionally aged students, first generation students, males in early childhood education and those in STEM education. This work is done in collaboration with the Diversity Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree required at time of hire
  • Experience in academic advising required
  • Experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to work with non-traditional students
Desired Qualifications:
  • Degree in an education-related field
  • Experience advising in a higher education setting
  • Experience in teacher education advising
  • Experience with recruitment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to handle various situations and think strategically in response to issues.
  • Ability to learn or understand the nuances of teacher education programs.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to student-centered advising team approach
  • Excellent attention to detail
RESPONSIBILITIES:

COLLEGE RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION

  1. Conduct professional development on retention and recruitment for faculty and staff
  2. Develop, coordinate, administer, maintain, and assess high impact retention programming for undergraduate and graduate students in the COEPS
  3. Advise the College administration in areas related to recruitment and retention
  4. Provide high quality advising to students in undergraduate programs and graduate students
  5. Assist in the development of COEPS relationships with PreK-12 schools
  6. Maintain and develop mutually beneficial relationships with program and departments outside of the COEPS to assist in supporting students (i.e., Admissions, Advising and Exploration Center, Multicultural Affairs and Student Success, Pathways, Student Affairs, etc.)
  7. Assist the Diversity Coordinator in the development and facilitation of the “I Want to Be a Teacher” camp
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Prepare and maintain retention program budgets and expenditures
  2. Grant seeking, oversight, and reporting for the Office of Recruitment and Retention
  3. Conduct evaluation and assessment of recruitment and retention programs including annual reports
  4. Represent the COEPS at various campus and off campus functions at state, regional, national, and international meetings related to recruitment and retention as assigned by the Dean
  5. Make presentations to prospective students, enrolled students, faculty and staff regarding College programs.
  6. Represent the COEPS at SOAR and Warhawk Premiere and other internal and external committees as appropriate
  7. Coordinate student service learning opportunities such as America Reads, university student visits to local schools, etc.
  8. In coordination with the COEPS Diversity Coordinator, develop programming with COEPS Learning Community Coordinators
  9. Coordinate special projects as assigned
COORDINATE ALL FUNCTIONS OF THE FUTURE TEACHER PROGRAM (FTP) AND THE MINORITY TEACHER PREPARATION PROGRAM (MTP)
  1. Assessment, development, and program evaluation
  2. Creation, coordination, and evaluation of high impact programming
  3. Maintain appropriate records and data, prepare reports, and make presentations as required
  4. Coordinate the FTP Summer Institute
  5. Coordinate the FTP Peer and Faculty Mentoring Programs
  6. Plan and direct FTP monthly meetings
  7. Coordinate all FTP student events and activities
  8. Coordinate all MTP student events, activities, and meetings
  9. Coordinate the MTP Peer and Faculty Mentoring Programs
  10. Monitor student progress, determine areas where additional support is indicated, and refer students to appropriate resources
  11. Other duties as assigned by either the Advising Coordinator, Dean or Associate Dean of the COEPS.
