ATTENTION:

The Department of Instructional Communication and Information Technology (iCIT) seeks a Senior Database Administrator (ETL/Data Warehouse Specialist).

JOB DETAILS:

Reporting to the Director of Applications Development, the ETL/Data Warehouse Specialist will be responsible for architecture and management of the UW - Whitewater data warehouse solutions. Responsibilities include design and development of the data models, design and support of the data warehouse environments, as well as development and execution of ETL processes. Implement enterprise content and data management solutions to reduce cost and complexity, increase trust and integrity in order to improve operational efficiencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) + years of experience with ETL tools or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience with other data warehouse data extract methods.
  • Experience with data warehousing techniques, data modeling, star schema design and implementation.
Desired Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a technology area of study; Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Analytics.
  • Two (2) + years of experience with SQL programming and relational database management systems such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience in designing data models for BI/DW environments employing dimensional modeling techniques and concepts such as star schemas and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Experience building ETL processes with Informatica PowerCenter or equivalent tools.
  • Experience in higher education environment, especially working with student and staff.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft ERPs.
  • Experience with BI data visualization tools, data profiling tools/strategies, data virtualization, and/or data migration strategies.
  • Effectively discussing technical concepts and issues with both IT professionals and others.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Oracle database management systems principles, techniques and capabilities.
  • Ability to document procedures, processes, guidelines, and data dictionaries for technical and non-technical users.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, schedule and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate technical subject matter to non-technical users.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Manage time effectively
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Interface with functional areas to understand data and reporting needs.
  2. Facilitate requirements gathering and develop solutions to meet the immediate and long-term needs of internal customers.
  3. Assure data quality and integrity for the information residing in the data warehouse.
  4. Plan, design, create, and deploy data warehouses in coordination with the NOC, Middleware and Applications Development teams.
  5. Design, build and deploy data models.
  6. Apply best practices for data loading and extraction.
  7. Develop and document data architecture as well as data modeling.
  8. Develop reporting applications for data warehouse consistency.
  9. Manage design throughout implementation process.
  10. Design end user interfaces and build cubes.
  11. Develop and implement ETL routines according to the DWH design and architecture.
  12. Support the development and validation required through the lifecycle of the DWH and Business Intelligence systems, maintain user connectivity, and provide adequate security for data warehouse.
  13. Monitor the DWH and BI systems performance and integrity. Provide corrective and preventative maintenance as required.
  14. Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and skills.
  15. Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  16. Other duties as assigned
